Here is what our experts feel about Wego
TVS Motors has been a key player in the Indian two-wheeler market since early days. The Chennai based automaker is India’s third largest motorcycle company and is also the second largest exporter in the country. The company is known to have produced some excellent automatic two-wheelers, including the iconic TVS Scooty, India’s first indigenous scooterette. The company introduced the TVS Wego in the Indian market back in 2010 to cater the higher-end segment of the scooter market. Recently, an updated 2018 version of the Wego was launched with new graphics, new colours and updated features. There are no changes at the mechanical front and the 2018 version continues to be powered by the same engine which is fitted in its predecessor. TVS has also refreshed its seat which is now wider and promises to provide more comfort. Notable features include a pass-by switch, maintenance free battery, sync braking, clear lens multi-reflector headlight, dual side handle lock, ignition key glow, optional wheel rim stickers and 20-litres of utility storage.
The 2018 Wego is offered in two variants – Disc and Dual Tone, which are priced at Rs 52,127 and Rs 53,027 respectively. There are four new colours on offer – red, blue, grey, and black. Recently, a new TVS scooter was spied testing under heavy camouflage and is speculated to be the updated 2019 version of the TVS Wego. Not a lot of design elements were visible, however, it is likely to be similar to the current 2018 version with a few minor changes here and there. It might get a revised tail section and rear mudguard, a shorter mudguard, and different switchgear. We also anticipate an updated instrument cluster. Currently, the Wego stands against the Honda 5G, the Hero Maestro Edge, the Mahindra Gusto, the Yamaha Fascino, and the Honda Dio.
The TVS Wego flaunts an elegant yet catchy design. The design language is not very bold or flashy and carries a mixture of decent looks and visually appealing graphics. The scooter is tall, sleek and TVS has equipped it with Body Balancing Technology to boast an ergonomic design. It poses a full metal body. The front apron houses sleek clear lens turn indicators and small air vents above which sits a multi-reflector headlamp. TVS has fitted the Wego with a wider, single seat to add to the rider's comfort. New graphics can be spotted predominantly on the sides which add to the jazziness of the design. At the rear, you will spot an LED tail lamp, integrated turn indicators, metal grab rail, and a stainless steel muffler guard. Shiny black alloy wheels also add to the visual appeal of the scooter. The scooter is available in four new colours - red, blue, grey and black.
The Wego comes with a fully-digital instrument console with readouts like speedometer, tripmeter, fuel gauge, and low fuel indicator. Other notable features include a pass-by switch, maintenance-free battery, dual side handle lock, ignition key glow, optional wheel rim stickers, and 20-litre of utility storage.
The 2018 Wego continues to draw power from the 109.7c, four-stroke, singlen cylinder, air-cooled, BS-IV compliant engine that generates maximum power of 8.4PS at 7,500rpm and peak torque of 8Nm at 5,500rpm. Power is delivered to the rear wheel using a CVT transmission. TVS claims that the Wego can reach a top speed of 80kmph and return a mileage of 62kmpl in ideal conditions. The scooter is perfect to be driven across city roads and isn’t a bad option at all for occasional long routes.
Braking duties on the Wego are performed by 130mm drum brakes at both ends, however, a 220mm front disc is optionally available. To enhance the braking performance of the scooter, TVS has powered the Wego with the Sync Braking System (SBS), that activates both the front and the rear brakes simultaneously for controlled and effective braking. Built on a tubular frame, the Wego comes in a complete steel body. The scooter’s Body Balancing Technology (BBT) enhances the ergonomics and facilitates the ride quality. Suspension setup includes advanced telescopic front forks and unit swing, gas-filled hydraulic damper at the rear. The Wego rides on 12-inch alloy wheels shod with 90/90 tubeless tyres at both ends.
An optional 220mm disc brake is offered as an option on the Wego for better braking performance. Moreover, the company’s Sync Braking System (SBS) also enhances the braking capabilities of the scooter. Additional features include maintenance free battery, dual side handle lock and ignition key glow.
