Cliq Expert Review

Here is what our experts feel about Cliq

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has been treating the Indian two-wheeler market with high-performing motorcycles and scooters since 1999. It has been a pioneer in the Indian scooter segment with the widest fleet in the category, including the Activa, which still rules the roads. The company has launched many scooters in the Indian market and recently  the Cliq was introduced, targeting the rural and semi-urban market. The compact automatic scooter features a completely different design with lots of plastic bodywork, new front apron, eye-catching graphics and refreshing colours. It gets a 12V headlamp with AHO feature, self-start option, mobile charging socket underneath the seat and a maintenance-free battery. The basic platform has been carried forward from the Activa. Also, there’s a huge range of accessories that add to its practicality and convenience, like a luggage rack at the back, a storage box placed at the centre of the floor-board and a small visor. The scooter is very lightweight, agile and is super easy to move around. It rides on 10-inch steel wheels that are wrapped in rugged block pattern tubeless tyres to take on the rough roads. At just 14-litre, the under-seat storage is not much and is only enough to store some small items and a half-face helmet.

HSMI is offering the Cliq in two variants - the Honda Cliq STD and the Honda Click DX at Rs 44,664 and Rs 45,166 respectively (both prices are ex-showroom, Delhi). There are four colours to choose from - Patriot Red, Orcus Grey, Morrocan Blue and Black. Although the Cliq is quite unique on its own, its still garners competition at this price range. Some of its notable competitors are the Hero Pleasure, Suzuki Lets and the TVS Scooty Zest.

The Cliq is a squeezed form of Honda’s 110cc scooters but is designed very uniquely. It is most compact amongst its siblings and yet features sporty and funky looks. The whole bodywork is done in fibre. At front, the 12V headlamp is integrated into the front apron with a visor on top of it, while the turn indicators are below the headlamp. Unlike other scooters, the Cliq gets a bare handlebar. The sleek side panels also get a rotor like element which has no use other than elevating the looks of the scooter. The rear features a seat lock, round-section rear grab rail bar and a tyre hugger to prevent splashing water or mud on the back of the pillion. The sleek design of the Cliq is further accentuated by its four dual-tone colour schemes and decent graphics.

The Cliq gets an analogue instrument cluster which looks pretty similar to the one on the old school Activa. It shows readouts like the speedometer, tripmeter and fuel gauge. The plastic panel around the console gets a carbon finish, however, the quality of plastic used on the Cliq is not really great. The under seat storage of the scooter is only 14-litre which is not sufficient enough to store a full-face helmet, but can store a half-face helmet and some other small items. A mobile charging socket under the seat is also available as an option. Other optional accessories include a rear luggage carrier, centre storage box and longer visor.

At heart, the Cliq is fitted with the same 110cc, air-cooled, single cylinder, four-stroke SI engine that powers the entire Honda 110cc range, including the Activa 4G. It generates 8PS of max power at 7,000rpm and 8.9Nm of peak torque at 5,500rpm, mated to CVT transmission. The engine also features Honda Eco Technology (HET) which enhances the engine’s performance and improves the mileage. Honda claims that the Cliq returns a mileage of 60kmpl and can reach a top speed of 83kmph.

The Cliq is a compact and lightweight scooter. It weighs 102kg (kerb weight) and measures 1745mm long, 695mm wide and 1039mm tall. The seat is placed at 743mm making it easier to ride for riders of all heights. The scooter can easily be manoeuvred around city traffic. Honda has equipped the Cliq with spring-loaded hydraulic suspensions at both the ends which are connected to 10-inch steel wheels. The wheels are shod with rugged block pattern tyres to provide better grip on rough roads and slippery conditions. Braking duties are carried by 130mm drum brakes at both the ends which feature Honda’s Combined Braking System (CBS).

CBS enhances the effectiveness of drum brakes and together with block pattern tread tubeless tyres it results in better road grip and ensures that the scooter doesn’t slip. Also, The AHO headlight adds to clear visibility irrespective of the light conditions.
