Here is what our experts feel about Destini 125
Hero Destini marks the entry of country’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer into the 125cc automatic scooter segment. The scooter was first showcased in India as Duet 125 at the Auto Expo 2018 but the name was later changed as the company intended to launch it as an all-new offering and not just a more powerful version of the Duet. The Destini 125 has been positioned in the company’s product portfolio as a unisex family scooter and practicality along with high value for money are key areas where the brand has put more focus on. Designed and developed at Hero’s Center of Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Jaipur Rajasthan, the Destini 125 not only looks premium and stylish but also has multiple useable and thoughtful features under its sleeve. For instance, the scooter gets a service reminder, side stand indicator, a buzzer for external fuel fill, multi-function ignition key slot and more. The Hero Duet 125 is available at the dealerships in two variants namely LX and VX. While the LX variant is currently priced at Rs 54,650, the VX trim will set you back by Rs 57,500 (both prices are ex-showroom, Delhi). With that being said, the Hero Destini 125 is currently the most affordable 125cc scooter on sale in India. The Hero Destini 125 rubs shoulders with some popular players in the segment like the Honda Activa 125 and Suzuki Access 125.
Take a look at the Hero Destini 125 and you will instantly notice that the scooter takes its styling lessons from the standard Duet. However, this one looks more premium and upmarket in order to appeal more to the buyers. The front end of the Destini 125 gets a thick chrome section with clear lens turning winkers that step up the style quotient. You also get body coloured rear view mirrors along with dual textured seat as other interesting additions. The chrome garnish at the sides retains the premium appeal at this portion of the scooter as well. Things are equally interesting at the rear with a wide tail lamp, external fuel fill and a broad rear body grab rail. The instrument cluster of the scooter is a digital-analog unit with an easy to read layout that packs in some features that are rare on a scooter like a side stand indicator, service reminder, trip meter and more.
The Hero Destini 125 draws power from a 124.6cc, single cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces a maximum power output of 8.82bhp while the peak torque is rated at 10.2Nm. The scooter is being offered with an easy electric start to offer convenience to the rider. The engine is linked to the company’s patented i3s technology. Under the mechanism, the engine shuts down automatically when in idle for over 5 seconds and comes to life again when the rider presses the brake lever. The technology proves beneficial on places like traffic signals as it helps in fuel saving.
Hero Destini 125 gets its braking done with the help of drum brakes at both ends. These further come linked to an Integrated Braking System under which both brakes are applied automatically when the rider presses the rear brake lever. This results in a more effective braking and minimizes chances of skidding. The suspension system of the scooter has conventional telescopic forks up front along with spring hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear. The setup is apt for Indian road conditions and you won’t complain during your day to day commutes. The scooter rides on 90/100-10 front and rear tyres and you get alloy wheels as an option. Furthermore, the tyres are tubeless so no worries in case of a puncture. The scooter is easy to manoeuvre even in city traffic and hence is apt for the typical Indian scenarios.
Hero Destini 125 gets a comprehensive feature list that includes numerous safety features. The scooter has a buzzer for the external fuel filler cap that acts as a reminder if you are in a hurry at a fuel station and forget to shut the lid. The Destini 125 also features a highly informative semi-digital instrument cluster that houses a side stand indicator, trip meter and a service reminder too. Moreover, the under-seat storage compartment of the scooter gets a boot light and mobile charging facility, thereby enhancing the practical aspect. The Hero Destini 125 also gets AHO (Automatic Headlamp ON) function and as the name suggests, the headlamp stays always ON in order to make the vehicle more visible and minimize the risks of an accident.
