Tata Motors is now getting more aggressive than ever and that is a great sign. Just after the launches of the Manza Club Class and the Safari Storme, it is time for the Vista hatch to get a dose of more power. Just like the 90hp Fiat Punto hatchback, the Vista now gets the 88bhp 1.3-litre Quadrajet diesel motor which makes it one of the fastest in its class and a real hot hatch. It has Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) technology the D90′s engine uses VGT technology. The D90 engine is mated to a Euro-tech 2 gearbox and does 0-100 kmph in 15.5 seconds and a top speed of 158 KMPH. The engine that resides under the hood may be the same block that Fiat dropped in the Punto, but this Quadrajet90 variant pumps out 200Nm of peak torque all the way from 1750- 3000 rpm. This does come handy when driving in traffic. In fact, the in 4th gear and 50 km/hr the engine barely revs past 2000 rpm. The awesome torque may be the highlight of the new Vista D90 however, power figures are equally impressive. 90PS of maximum performance is achieved at 4000 rpm and with 200 torques pulling on the hatchback, D90 catapults quite cleanly.

The suspension on the car has been tweaked to handle the extra power. There is still a fair bit of body roll but even on F1 race track the car felt rather composed. You do feel the ABS kick-in when you brake as it tugs the steering wheel a bit. The steering is decently weighted and precise for a car this size. The 5-speed gearbox is smooth but with long throws. Tata has made the Vista more sporty and there is a new front bumper, side skirts and a roof spoiler. You also get some wicked new colour options. Also to mark out the Quadrajet 90, all of them will come painted with a black painted roof. We must say all these changes have made the design more aggressive now and one look will mean you are driving the sportiest version of the Vista. On the inside the changes are more apparent especially when you sit in the drivers seat. The big change is the moving of the instrument cluster from the centre to the driver side. There is also a driver information system which gives you a lot of info.

A small digital screen provides an instant update on mileage, average fuel consumption, distance-to-empty, ambient temperature and a digital clock. There is a touchscreen multimedia system which offers GPS navigation features like adjustable day & night mode, saved destination database, voice instruction guidance and optimal route mode. It comes with a multi-media DVD player and Blue5 technology (pair upto 5 mobile phones through Bluetooth connectivity). Also along with the performance on offer you get a fuel economy of 21.12 KMPL. Tata Vista D90 is available in five colours – Ultra Violet (new), Porcelain White, Spice Red, Cavern Grey and Jet Silver — and 2 trim levels – D90 VX and D90 ZX+. Despite all the features and performance Tata Motors have kept the price competitive and have priced it at Rs 5.99 lakh (VX) and Rs 6.83 lakhs (ZX+) ex-showroom Delhi. These prices if compared with the 90hp Fiat Punto come as Rs 1 lakh cheaper! With all this the Vista is now a hot hatch but also an affordable one. For a detailed analysis read below...

What we like

Looks spoty with all the tweaks.

What we don't like

Front bumper looks overdone.

Engine

This engine while doing duty in the 90hp Punto also is put in the Manza sedan. Powered by the Quadrajet diesel engine, with Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) technology the D90′s engine uses VGT technology. The D90 engine is mated to a Euro-tech 2 gearbox and does 0-100 kmph in 15.5 seconds and a top speed of 158 KMPH. What we like

Engine offers strong performance.

What we don't like

There is small turbo lag.

Mileage

Also along with the performance on offer you get a fuel economy of 21.12 KMPL which is just excellent from a hot hatch.

What we like

Excellent mileage despite power.

What we don't like

None.

Safety

The suspension on the car has been tweaked to handle the extra power. There is still a fair bit of body roll but even on F1 race track the car felt rather composed. You do feel the ABS kick-in when you brake as it tugs the steering wheel a bit. The steering is decently weighted and precise for a car this size. The 5-speed gearbox is smooth but with long throws.

When it comes to safety there are dual front SRS airbags, crumple zones, side intrusion beams, engine immobilizer, central locking and keyless entry ensure complete safety. The car comes with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) technology, as a standard fitment, ensuring better stability and steerability under all braking conditions.

What we like

Improved handling.

What we don't like

Still has body roll.

Comfort

The new Vista D90 despite the sportiness rides very well and absorbs bumps very well.

What we like

Rides very well.

What we don't like

Refinement could be better.

Pros GR8 Value For Money

Cons No ABS

Hi, I have taken a test drive of both quadrajet aura and saffire aura. The choice was very easy, Quadrajet is the car to own. Driving on the roads is like cutting knife thru butter. There is no difference even when A/C is on full blast. Buy the car with anti-rust treatment, teflon coating, suede seat covers, mp20 sunfilm from OEM (VKOOL), Keyless entry--remote all this will cost Rs 20k extra. Now u have fully loaded car that will change everything. good luck..i hve already booked one:)

Average Car

By Prakash T Posted on 18 Jun 09, 01:25 AM

Pros Good looks, Comfort, Excellent Ride

Cons Poor Fuel Economy, Bad Gear shift

I bought Indica Vista after selling the Indica V2. My friends and family suggested me to go for the Swift DDis but after extensive expert reviews on various auto websites for 2 months and BS motoring recommended it, I decided to buy Indica Vista Aura Quadrajet on 3rd April,2009. I wanted a family car with the driver driving it 80% of the times. BUT I AM NOT A HAPPY OWNER My experience: Pros: 1) Indica name is a misnomer. Its not a Taxi dear, like the old V2!! This is the reason why Vista is NOT AVAILABLE IN WHITE COLOUR- to dis-associate itself from the image of a white Taxi. Also it is not being sold under the Taxi quota. Good for the car's brand image. 2) Cabin is silent, shockers are very good. 3) Road grip is excellent. I drove it at 140km/hr on the NH2 to Calcutta. The ride was excellent. Braking needs a little betterment. 4) Rear seat comfort too good 5) Fine audio system..but not meant for Rock and Pop lovers!! 6) Good Aircon 7) NO need to shift gears frequently during jams..through congested areas. 3rd gear with A.C works fine, absolutely!! Cons: 1) Queaking sound from the door handles from the first day due to loose fittment. 2) The rubber lining on the rear doors gave way after a month. the doors need effort to be closed. 3) The rear plastic tray and the steering nose assembly has been fitted very poorly. The A/c vents have sharp edges!! 4)BAD GEARSHIFT. Simply no match with the Swift. I drive it 20% of the times and I still want to enjoy the rear seat. Thoretically it should be a better combination than Swift beacause both the gearbox and engine in Vista are from Fiat!! BUT NO!! I DONT KNOW!! may be the sticky klutch plate of the TATA is the culprit!! 5) POOR FUEL ECONOMY!! highways-15.5km/ltr and city-14km/ltr only!!(with A.C) i was expecting at least 19 and 17 respectively going by the mileage of Swift which has the same engine. 6) And yes, The TATA dealers are landlords and not hardworking businessmen. They still have this "take it or leave it" attitude when their cars are not selling well. Just imagine what would have happened if they would have managed the sales figures close to SWIFT!!. I dont know how much mileage other Users are getting!! Can anyone please comment on this issue. CONCLUSION: Maruti was considered for its Petrol cars, It had failed miserably with Zen Diesel. But see its success with DDIS!! TATA means diesel. It still has little success with the petrol Indica Vista Saffire(selling very few nos.) Vista has been launched in reaction to Swift DDis after 2 years but I am sad to say, Vista is still a few notches below the Swift overall. Vista has much more features for the price but with the poor fuel economy and lesser re-sale value than Swift(I m sure about that), the price advantage is actually not there. NOR is the driving pleasure!! TATA should have tried to give a Skoda Fabia at the price of SWift rather than TRYING to give a SWIFT at a lesser price. Mr.TATA please understand Bharat mein sirf sasta nahin, acha bikta hai!! I am sure the sales figures of Vista quadrajet are nothing compared to Swift. It is rarely visible on the roads after almost 8 months of launch!! !!GOD BLESS THE SALES OF VISTA!! Amit Agarwal(amitonline74@yahoo.co.in) Dhanbad Jharkhand

Good car, could have been better

By Shraavan Poorvabhadra Posted on 07 Aug 09, 07:58 PM

Pros Head Turner, Spacious and comfortable

Cons Avg service, INDICA name tag

Indica name is always associated with TAXI which i feel makes a lot many people to look for other options inspite of the car being terrific. The only thing good is that V2 has not been discontinued otherwise most Cabbies would have shifted to VISTA. Now the real review.. The performance Pickup - Pickup is poor and frustrating in the first 2 gears but improves a lot once you reach the 3rd gear. Engine - Same engine 1.4 TDI used in INDICA V2 turbo and Indigo TDI which is fine tuned for better performance in VISTA quite frankly i didn't notice the difference except that the Vibration felt much less than other versions. Engine is noisy and you feel like driving a TATA 407 tempo if the windows are open and the music is off. Comfort - Seats are quite comfortable and road bumps are hardly felt. Mileage - Mileage i got is between 16 - 17KMPL before first service with 100% delhi roads and 70% AC. Seems to be good tough. Air Conditioning - Good air conditioning as 1 fan speed is good enough for delhi weather. Service - As expected..... Tata need to learn that not every one is a TAXI driver and should change their chalta hai attitude. My suggestion to all buyers be tough with them otherwise they will take you for a ride (in their taxies) Overall a good improvement but if you are willing to spend a little more go for the Quatrajet as it is much more refined and almost soundless engine.

Tata Indica Vista Safire - Value for money

By Vivek Khanna Posted on 25 May 10, 05:01 PM

Pros Great Look, Mileage, Performance, stable

Cons Boot space

I own Indica Vista Safire Aura since Feb '10 and have done 3500km. this includes a higway drive of 1500km (including Hill station). The car is very comfrtable, spacious for a family of 4. Car is very stable & sturdy at 100-110kmph speed. The greatest advantage of the car is FIAT engine which delivers higher torque at low speeds and at 3/4th gears. No worry of changing gears often in city traffic. Pickup is sluggish, but good for safety and fuel economy. Mileage is 13kmpl in city and 17kmpl in highways (I drove at close to 3000rpm). Rear seating is absolutely ergonomic and has excellent leg space. Central meter console is advantage and provides excellent clarity and visibility for driving. Has lumbar support for front seats and is classic for long drives. All the family members enjoyed the drive. A good car to own and value for money! Well done TATAs

Indica vista terra/aqua

By Rajesh Singh Posted on 22 Jan 09, 04:57 AM

Pros no abs/n baloon sec.

Cons no ABS? Baloon Security n enlarged diggy

Wou here is something aristocratic with the dose of economy. Indica Vista Terra n Aqua seem to override the coleague models in most of the departments- Price, space, aristocracy, comfort n style. Look at the lights,gorgeous...metre changed...in a way new in style...and most importantly the look as well as the space n facility of a luxury car.. great...this should break the records.......u can go for swift, but by paying 1 lakh extra, there is no ABS n baloon security, what then, why to go negative in thought and improbable in mind....no baloon can save u at the velocity o9f time, remeber it and shun market saleologies.... go for indica vista only...

Great Deal - Vista

By Seharzadirani Posted on 20 Jun 09, 10:41 PM

Pros SPACE, COMFORT, LOOKS

Cons FINISH, PICKUP

Bought Vista Aura Quadrajet a month back. Done 2500 km till now. Car running great. No problems till now. Average's good, 18+ highway with ac on. A great deal in 4.8 lacs. Swift's a great deal but with 5.25 lacs, crampy interiors and waiting period of 5 months Vista is a better deal. Vista scores low on pickup, interior finish, Cabin noise and a slightly stiff handling, it wins hand down in space, features and ride comfort. Infact latter is comparable with sedans in higher category. Extremely satisfied with Vista.

Vista is OK

By Wrangler Agrandey Posted on 12 Feb 10, 03:26 AM

Pros Fiat Multjet Engine,Large Interior space,Mileage,Safety

Cons Very Cheap Plastic Parts ,Tata build Quality which lacks

I bought a Tata Indica Vista Terra Quadrajet and as of now 1700kms done and gets a average 17-22kmpl mileage(City - Highway). The Plastics are el cheapo. The Front Driver's B-Pillar Seat Belt Plastic Upper Cover Broken OFF When I pushed it into place.very cheap Console,(gear).A/C is inadequate. Bumper gets Scratches if I drive in Rural Roads due to scratching from Small Plants on either Sides.Seems a Bumper Protecting Rubber is a Must for Vista's.Beadings,Panel Gaps and More You can Expect with a TATA. As I picked up a sort of neo-proverb online : "You need to have extreme Humour Sense if to Own A Tata Car "
