The Octavia TSI is simply a hoot to drive. Its performance is amazing and is the best car I have driven till date. Interiors are very spacious and is feature rich as well. Everything is good till comes the service part. Skoda's after sales experience is probably the worst in India, spare parts are very expensive too. Other than that, Read More

I love the diesel engine. It's fast, peppy and gives good fuel economy. I have a diesel automatic and its just great to drive. It goes fast when you want it to and relaxes on demand. The interiors are good but am disappointed that Skoda does not give basics like a USB slot. However, it's a drivers car and the Read More

Very good car and it just loves to be on the road. The feel of the car is rock solid. It feels more safe than others. There's a sun roof which is fun only 15 days a year but is a good feature. It's comfortable and feature list like rear parking camera, tyre pressure warning are very handy when driving Read More

Review of Skoda Octavia

Overview

The all-new Skoda Octavia hopes at re-igniting the passion of the good old Octavia - the first model that the company launched in India and dare we say, the most successful Skoda in India ever too! Examples of Octavias with over 1.5 lac on the odometer and still running well are common and the company hopes to re-invent the legend and surpass the current Laura with this new car.
The new Octavia is longer, wider and lower than the current Laura and needless to say look modern and sharp. Similarities with the Laura are far and few and the Octavia clearly looks from a newer generation. The car also has a longerr wheelbase of 2688mm which lends it a spacious cabin on the inside. Talking of which, the cabin of the Octavia is loaded with both quality and features. The top of the line Elegance version is loaded to the brim though we do miss a keyless entry and start-stop system.
The earlier Octavia was known for tight rear seat space but this new one improves on that a lot. The new Octavia will be sold with 2 petrol options and one diesel. While the 1.4-litre petrol puts out 140PS of power and 250Nm of torque, the bigger 1.8 petrol puts out 180PS of power (Laura 1.8 is 160PS). The 2.0 diesel puts out 143PS and 320Nm of torque.
Skoda is offering the 1.4 petrol with a manual while the 1.8 petrol will only be offered with a 7 speed automatic. The 2.0 diesel comes with both a 6 speed auto and a 6 speed manual.

Interior

Change is the name of the game and Skoda has again taken a notch higher this time. Inside the new look philosophy continues as there is more interior length (1,782 mm), more knee room (73 mm) and more headroom at the back (980 mm). Also increased is the boot volume at 590 litres, which we have to say is just massive! Compared to the current Laura, the new Octavia has grown significantly in length and width. The new model is 90 mm longer and 45 mm wider than the second-generation Octavia. At the same time, the wheelbase has grown by 108 mm which means there is more space now. When it comes design of interiors, you can see the inside now looks like the Passat or the other more premium VW saloons. We like the sporty steering wheel and from the pictures, quality has taken a giant leap, though we have to have a closer look to find out!

Exterior

From the image that you see here it is pretty clear that things have completely changed at Skoda design and this transformation brings about a more aggressive and classy design philosophy. Yes we have used both of those words as both sum up this design perfectly. The 2013 Octavia is bigger, all round and looks like a more expensive car than it will be and this factor will be a huge selling point. Compared to its predecessor, the new Octavia has grown significantly in length and width. The new model is 90 mm longer and 45 mm wider than the second-generation Octavia which in-turn was bigger and rommier than the first gen too. At the same time, the wheelbase has grown by 108 mm. The styling is now more in- line with the other VW group cars like the Jetta and Passat. The styling is heavily influenced by the VisionD concept  and the lines on the car are silky smooth. Obviously, unlike the concept it is a more practical shape. The looks as said earlier are now more like the VW cars, especially the side profile. From the rear it looks like more of a coupe and undoubtedly looks the most premium in its class. The coupé-like silhouette looks cool too. Plus it has a special new characteristic which is an upswept dynamic window line in the rear doors, called the “fin”, it is these details that make the new Octavia a more mature and expesnive looking sedan. In flesh the new Octavia looks stunning especially in white/red and even in sober silver. We like it. A lot.

  • Side Profile

The side profile given the stylish and sporty alloy wheels add to the overall road presence of this sedan. The crease on the lower part of the doors are smooth flowing and look good on the new Octavia.

  • Ground Clearance

Skoda Octavia brings 155mm of ground clearance and goes over all potholes and speed breakers with ease.

  • Bumpers

The front bumper has a slim and wide air dam with angular fog lamps integrated into it. The design looks great on the Octavia. The rear bumper has reflector strip on either side to it.

  • Head Lamps

Day time running LED strip on the headlight looks good while the powerful projectors on the Octavia does a great job of lighting up the road at night. The headlamp design feels contemporary.
