Review of Renault Fluence

Overview

The Renault Fluence was the French car-makers first launch in India. However despite it attractive styling, factors like  lack of promotion and a small dealer network meant that the car never took off in India. That is a pity as the Fluence is a good car that oozes style. However now Renault wants to take another shot with the Fluence and this time it is the facelifted version. The facelifted Renault Fluence takes a more aggressive approach and looks more sharp than its curvy predecessor. The changes have been mostly to the exterior of the car while retaining the most of the old looks but with a twist. New Renault Fluence now has the new Renault front which means a bigger and a more aggressive grille. Its front end now has the vertically-set logo at the centre of a broad black strip. You would also have noticed the LED daytime running lights. At the rear the changes are not that major but overall the Fluence now has more presence. The cabin has remained more or less the same save for minor tweaks. There is now digital instrumentation for all versions plus there is choice of new upholsteries. From the basic model, all versions now have Bluetooth radios equipped with USB. The New Renault Fluence also has the Renault R-Link multimedia system which will provide connected services. Renault R-Link incorporates the navigation system and telephony function and can be connected to portable music players. Some things however remain  which is good. The rear seats are vey comfortable and great for owners who would want to be sitting at the back. It has soft seat fabric which feels luxurious. Renault Fluence brings adjustable seats and it has good ergonomics. It brings powerful air conditions with dual-zone climate control and rear AC vents. The engine options are unaltered. enault Fluence is available in two different engine options. The diesel variant is a 1.5 liter unit which produces 108 BHP of maximum power at 4000 RPM and maximum torque at 240 NM at 2000 RPM. It brings plenty of low end torque which makes it easy to drive in the city. The petrol variant of Renault Fluence comes with a 2.0 liter engine which produces 135 BHP at 6000 RPM and maximum torque of 190 NM at 3700 RPM. The only change could be inclusion of Xtronic CVT in the petrol. The Fluence wasn’t built to serve an enthusiast but performs well when driven in a spirited manner. It has a well weighted steering which gives good feedback. It brings disk brake setup on all four wheels and the braking is sharp as it comes with ABS and EBD which enhances its stopping capabilities. The handling overall is soft thanks to the suspension set-up but does the job. Renault Fluence brings a comfortable ride owing to its well tuned suspension setup and cushions out all the bumps and undulations on the road. The suspension on the Fluence has been tuned to be on the softer side. Compared to its rivals it rides very well and just absorbs the potholes.
