Overview

If you happen to be a lucky person having the means to spend Rs 1 crore on a sportscar, your choice has just got more difficult with this- the new 911. The 911 does not need an introduction and it has been recognised as one of the best sports cars in the world for the last 40 odd years. Porsche India has launched this along with the new Boxster in India. From the styling point of view the new 911 looks every inch a 911 and you cannot mistake it for anything else. Viewed from the side there is new styling, larger alloy wheels and the more convex windscreen contribute to an even lower sleeker look. Typical of the revised, wider front end are the new headlights and larger side air intakes. The wider rear is even better looking and you get so redesigned, narrower LED technology rear lights. The new 911 Carrera is also the first car in the world to feature a seven-speed manual transmission as standard. The PDK autobox is optional. The Porsche 911 Carrera is also the first sports car that has an auto start/stop function. The system can save up to 0.6 litres per 100 kilometres, that means you can your cake and eat it too! The interior takes its cue from the Porsche Carrera GT. The driving position is brilliant and the quality is top notch too! The gearbox is located close to the steering whell. The major controls and various functions of the car are packed into the centre console which is re-designed and has a seven-inch touch screen. It is a two seater and very little luggage space but it is a sportscar. But the talking point surely are the engines, the base 911 Carrera makes 350 bhp from its 3.4-litre boxer engine and the 911 Carrera S makes 400 hp from its 3.8-litre boxer engine. The handling is simply sublime and the wider track helps for leech like grip. The 4-wheel drive equipped version has even better handling. the steering is brilliant too! For a detailed analysis read below
