UPDATED: Read detailed roadtest of the E400 Cabriolet (click to read)

The Mercedes E-Class is probably the most important car that Mercedes has its range. Just think about it, in India the E-Class is still their best selling car and not even the launch of cheaper offerings like the B-Class have changd that. Like the numerous spy shots that we have been seeing, this is a big step taken by Mercedes as the E-Class has been around for quite some time now and needed a change to compete with new rivals like the Audi A6. So, as a result Mercedes has gone for an aggressive new design. The front of the E-Class now lets go of the twin headlamp arrangement in favour of a fixed headlamp and this gives it a sporty look. It has LEDs that break into segments in the one peice headlights. It has full LED headlights also available as an option. The new E has many grille styles and in the luxury version has a three bar centre section while the Sport version has a two-bar centre section. The new bumper looks sporty as well and gives the car a more aggressive look compared to the previous gen. Overall it looks lower and meaner than before. We like. The interior of the E-Class has been comletely changed and it looks just like any luxury Merc should. The dashboard is seperated in two zones. The design of the console is upright but it now looks much more smarter. The dash now has a new look screen. The two-part trim on the dash is just pure luxury. The switches and knobs are all of high quality in fact the whole car is just bullet-proof and quality is brilliant. The plus point regarding the new E is the space which it has in abundance. The feature list is long and it is loaded with alll sorts of features including a massive panoramic sunroof and navigation. At the launch there will be two engine options- the E250 CDI and E200 petrol. The diesel which will be hot-seller makes 204 bhp and the smooth petrol makes 184 bhp. There would be more ppwerful versions in the near future. The 7-speed automatic gearbox is honey smooth and just brilliant. The new E-Class is more sportier than the earlier E-Class but amazingly Mercedes has managed to keep the ride almmost same and new E-Class though more firm still handles bad roads with ease. The refinement is truly fantastic. In the handling department the new E-Class is just brilliant as it brings in a new dimension. The steering which is a new electric unit is direct and light but the fantastic body control and grip levels are just great. It shrinks around you and becomes a great sports saloon. When it comes to safety the new E-Class gets a lot of features. For a detailed analysis read below

Lost it's Charm?

By Sourabh Sharma Posted on 04 May 08, 02:55 AM

Pros Good performance

Cons Old Styling

This car till a few years ago was the choice for the luxury car seeker in India - Since then, it was begun to look outdated.. Great comfort, handling, performance and safety.. But even the Honda Accord gives you that.. The brand Mercedes also has a little bit of it's exclusivity since there are a lot more on the road these days.. The Audi cars offer more contemporary styling.. However, the Mercedes S class is considered to be the best car on the roads..

Pros good engineering , good features and handling

Cons expensive parts to replace

the mercedes models are very good eg e200 / e220 e280/ e320 etc etc but ofcourse if you want a bigger size go for s class . Best is road handling / suspension / sitting space / boot space / no major mech issues except rear shocks start leaking / coil springs break . front pulley bolt breaks / loss of power steering / water pump partial siezure , tyre wear / etc

Cons Poor Passenger Capacity

A good car with 81 liters of Petrol tank . Its engine is V6 . But its mileage is 7 -8 . Its roof window is awesome . It looks good in white and grey colors . Its wheel has a semi-hydrolysis system which helps when it gets punctured . It is the best , its simply the best.....

Dealing with mercedes benz and experience

By Posted on 19 Jul 13, 03:15 PM

Pros nothing

Cons everything

We strongly suggest that before buying Mercedez any Model in India, think several times, lest you will regret and feel very much frustrated, due to their deceptive sales tricks and non- professional approach. Mercedez Cars are not suitable for Indians. The features which are essentially required for Indian conditions are missing and you pay hefty amount for available features of Mercedez Car which are of no use for Indian conditions. Recently I purchased Mercedez New E-200 Petrol, anybody who reads this message and fascinated with the Star Brand, he or she can buy from me at very attractive price. Mercedez sales in India have declined because similar other Brands offer much more user friendly features. You can reach me at my e-mail smjh7663@yahoo.co.in , for further updates regarding purchase of my Car. Thanks & regards, Javed Husain

Amazing Merc

By Sunil Posted on 24 Sep 13, 12:06 PM

Pros Good Performance,Great Interiors,Fuel Efficiency,Comfort,

Cons Average Looks,

The best thing that I liked in the Merc E Class is its fuel efficiency and the joy ride. The fuel efficiency when driven in Economy mode is really which I have not expected. The comfort in driving is very soothing & smooth. Even on long drives do not feel any tiredness or any aches. This is truly a drivers delight for those who love driving especially long ones. The cruise control option is pretty simple to manage when compared with other cars that I have driven with this option. The paddle shift is also pretty neat to use behind the steering wheel. All in all one awesome vehicle and I am glad I choose it.

Mercedes E Class

By Rahul Posted on 29 Mar 14, 01:09 PM

Pros Great Looks,Good Performance,Great Interiors,Comfort,

Cons Average Fuel Efficiency,

The current generation Mercedes Benz E Class is my favourite luxury car in its segment. The answer as to why it is my favourite is simple. The Audi A6 has to loud a design language and to be honest, it does not look very good either especially with those optional daytime running headlights. The BMW 5 Series looks nice overall, but it simply does not have a premium enough design language. The Mercedes Benz E Class on the other hand looks very premium but in a subtle manner. I especially liked the pre facelift model with its sharp front end with the dual headlamps and tipped forward grille. The new one does not look as good to me, but in the dark those headlamps look very sporty and I like that. The interiors of the Mercedes Benz E Class are also equally tasteful with great quality leather and plastics. The swith gear also feels nice and expensive. The seats are comfortable and the overall the cabin of the car is a nice place to be in. The E Class also comes with a nice range of engines to choose from. Although, the E63 AMG I drove has the best engine. It makes this luxury car a muscle car with an exahust note you can die for. It is also very fast with this engine and is awesome to drive.

Long name but long list of features

By Shraavan Poorvabhadra Posted on 26 Mar 14, 04:05 PM

Pros Good Performance,

Cons ,service cost

Merc has given this a long name but the car has long list of features. I was driving a 3 series bmw and then i upgraded to this car recently after much thought. But what a worthy purchase it has been. It has high amount of engine power but more than anything it has best in market features worthy of praise. I am a little unsatisfied with service cost. I had a minor accident driving in busy road of mumbai and car got hit by rickshaw. Now he cant afford payment for such damage so i took it for service. The cost of paint touch up and bumper replacement came to over a lakh rupees. Not good on part of Merc to charge so high but i guess the part must be expensive to make as well. Anyway overall i am happy to own this car. I dont drive much but my driver takes me around mostly.

Luxury at it's best

By Akanksha Verma Posted on 02 Apr 14, 05:57 PM

Pros Great Looks,

Cons Average Interiors,

My father owns a Mercedes E 250 CDI and I just love being in it. Its a car that loves to go fast. The diesel engine is very good and the automatic gear shift work seamlessly. You can't even feel the car shift up when going fast. effortless driving, The steering seems lil heavy for me but it works well. The car is comfortable though I do find the the system a tad outdated.
