Today, the Wagon R continues to sell in healthy numbers and is always among the top 4-5 selling cars in the Indian market in terms of monthly sales figures. It isn’t a very modern or a beautiful looking hatchback – what it easily retains is its tall boy look. The new version has grown in every department and is now an overall bigger vehicle too. Dimension wise, the Wagon R 3595mm long, stands 1700mm tall and is 1495mm wide. The new Wagon R has some changes. The new Wagon R gets exterior and interior updates which are designed to make it look fresher. We think the front end now looks much better. The new grille has become more narrow and the front bumper now has a bigger air dam plus there are new look fog lamps as well. However it is all not just cosmetic as the front upper grille has also been designed to reduce air borne noise. The Lxi and Vxi get a chrome front grille. The Wagon R was always known and appreciated for its practical and roomy interiors. Ofcourse there is acres of head room around and the tall body with big windows adds to the overall airy feeling inside. The upgraded version got a completely revamped cabin which now makes this car look upmarket and classy for this price segment. Getting into a commanding driving position is pretty easy. At the back, with short to medium size front passengers, knee room is pretty impressive.. On the inside the changes are more subtle with the interiors getting a beige/black combo look which again lifts the cabin ambience to some extent. The top of the line Vxi gets beige seats while the Lx and Lxi gets dual coloured ones. The music system has also been upgraded and you now get USB, though you get this in higher variants only. Its also more practical now with a  Push type I/P upper storage box. The new Wagon R is now powered by the 1.0litre KB series engine that puts out 68PS of power 90Nm of torque. With a kerb weight that ranges between 860 and 885, the relatively light weight tall-boy car makes the most use of this engine and doesn’t really a chance for any complain. The engine does have its typical three-cylinder sound (or noise if you want to call it) but in daily usage, it turns out be a fairly capable with a very efficient nature. The car maker claims 20.51 kmpl which is just brilliant. Out on the highway as well, the Wagon R has a stable feel. Triple digit speeds are easy and you don’t have a reason to complain even on hilly roads or corners at normal speeds. The steering is of the electric variety which means it is super light at low speeds. Now this is a huge boon for city usage and this combined with an excellent driver’s view means this is one of the best cars in the segment for city usage. Maruti also offers optional ABS. In typical driving conditions, ie, city roads that aren’t always smooth, the Wagon R does a remarkable job. The suspension soaks up most bumps without making the ride uncomfortable. It is only the bigger obstacles which tend to unsettle the car. The CNG variant is now priced at Rs 4.42 lakh while the top-end Vxi variant will set you back by 4.13 lakh. The new Wagon R in Lxi trim is priced at Rs 3.88 lakh ex-showroom. The cheapest is Rs 3.58 lakh for the base model. For a detailed analysis read below

To summarize, the changes are:

1.       Refreshed Exteriors
2.       Newly designed front Bumper.
3.       New grille design.
4.       Sporty fog lamp bezel design.
5.       Chrome accentuated elegant front grille (Lxi,Vxi)
6.       Front upper grille designed to reduce air borne noise.
7.       Dual tone interior color scheme (Beige & black).
8.       Complete beige seats : Vxi and Beige and black combination : Lx, Lxi
9.       New Eagle wings Audio with integrated USB (Vxi)
10.   Push type I/P upper storage box:  Ergonomically designed in Instrument panel for easy accessibility.
11.   Useful to store cans, ladies accessories and many other utility items.
12.   Day/ Night Inside rear view mirror: Helps reduce glare and reflections during night driving.

Maruti Wagon R Picture

The Wagon R was always known and appreciated for its practical and roomy interiors. Ofcourse there is acres of head room around and the tall body with big windows adds to the overall airy feeling inside. The upgraded version got a completely revamped cabin which now makes this car look upmarket and classy for this price segment. Getting into a commanding driving position is pretty easy. At the back, with short to medium size front passengers, knee room is pretty impressive. The floor is almost flat which aids when three people are sitting at the back. Worthy of a mention are the rear doors that open quite wide.

Feels out of breath in highways

What we like

Handling feels better and planted

What we don't like

Still not as sporty as the A-Star

Comfort

The new WagonR isn’t just new on the outside or the inside – the platform has been changed as well. This upgraded car sits on a much bigger platform which shows its benefits on the move. It also gets a new frame type front suspension for smoother drives. Further, it gets an energy absorbing body structure for safer drives. In typical driving conditions, ie, city roads that aren’t always smooth, the Wagon R does a remarkable job. The suspension soaks up most bumps without making the ride uncomfortable. It is only the bigger obstacles which tend to unsettle the car

What we like

The ride is improved too

What we don't like

At high speeds the ride is a bit jiggly

Could have been better

By Vinayak Posted on 18 Apr 08, 12:21 AM

Pros Fantastic mileage, tall body

Cons 3-wheeler looks

Wagon R is surely one of the best cars in its segment, moreso when you look at the kind of people who go for it. Its definitely not the best looking, nor can it boast of being the most comfortable. But it surely gives an unbelievable mileage (upwards of 17kmpl for me!), has a lot of head room and the tall body structure makes you feel sitting high up on the road. I found the finishing to be dissapointing, when I compare it to the likes of the Santro or the Spark or the Swift. And that shouldnt be the case considering the price of a VXi is only about 50K cheaper than a Swift VXi. All in all...not a bad car...but if you really hv that extra buck, go for the swift anyday

Wagon R - A Comfort family car

By Pranav Posted on 21 Jan 10, 04:32 PM

Pros Comfort

Cons Body, LPG tank capacity

I bought my WAGON R DUO LXI on August 2008. I feel Wagon R deserves for its comfort and performance in highway as well as within city limits. I will suggest this comfort car to anyone who is interested to buy WAGON R DUO LXI. But few negative things are also there for this car. The clutch is not that much good as the clutch plate problem occurs after 20000kms but Maruti is doing a reasonable fare service at lower cost for this sort of problems. I hope Maruti should have a look over the clutch mechanism in this model. Also, I heard from a Maruti service advisor that the clutch problem will occur in 60% of the cars after running 20000kms. Apart from this clutch problem, Wagon R is an excellent/comfort family car.

Best for small family of 5, POOR MILEAGE, LOW PERFORMENCE

By Ali Zinna Posted on 30 Oct 13, 06:21 PM

Pros Great Looks,Comfort,

Cons Average Performance,Average Fuel Efficiency,

I suggest PLEASE read till end IF YOU ARE REALLY GOING TO BUY WAGON R .. I would like to describe by steps 1.Thought of purchasing a car with in budget of 3-4 lac 2.So my first choice was Alto 800, but its too small for my family( we are 5 members ) 3.After a deep thought Changed my mind to buy wagon r ( that time they are running offer of up to 40 k discount, LATER discovered they run the offer 365 days ) 4.Happily bought my NEW FIRST CAR. 5.VERY SMOOTH NICE CAR, (Showroom guys given a small chocolate box may be worth 10 Rs. )+some gift vouchers+5 liter petrol coupon. 6.Filled the tank full petrol. 7.After 260 kms fuel meter started blinking ..( thought that we run more AC and its the month of January and its hot ..) 8.After 30 days got a call for my first service 9.I took my car to their service center and i was VERY VERY HAPPY with their WELCOME but my happiness gone in just 2 minutes when i REJECTED them from doing TEFLON protection and RUST PROTECTION...I became strangers to them. 10.Service done!! Overall about the service..OK!! 11.Till Second service which is after 6 months .. I found that their is very low pickup and very low . 12.When i visited for Second service i told them about the pick up they told me that its a K series engine so ,for better mileage their will be a LESS PICKUP and when i told them about the mileage they replied IN CITY CONDITIONS the average will be 12-14 only BUT I AM GETTING ONLY 10KMPL....No response from SERVICE Persons. 13.Finally second service Done!! 14.Now i am only getting 10 KMPL in city conditions .( on highway i got around 16 KMPL on express highway only ) 15. Now 9500 KMS done with my wagon r with in the spam of 10 months around 75000 petrol it has been consumed with less pickup EVEN MORE LESS PICK UP IF AC IS ON...If you get any ghat road type then you have to use 1 or 2 gear with compulsorily AC off. 16. And waiting for my 3 rd service which will in next 2 months ( Dec 2013 ) LETS HOPE FOR GOOD SERVICE AND MILEAGE ...HOPE 17.Last but not the least I got a feedback mail from MARUTI about their service I replied what i mentioned in this mail...GUESS what .,,that was the last mail from them..ha ha ( as expected ) My suggestions Go for CNG or diesel vehicle. or try any other CAR. Before buying at MARUTI you are GOD and after buying you are DOG. my email id is mdalizinna@gmail.com you can contact me any time for this.

By Jobin DSilva Posted on 16 May 09, 05:29 PM

Cons none

wagon-r is a very good option for a midsize car,in the grand indian automobile industry. the car is very good indeed and rides easily at 120km/hr. the style is not so good, but the comfort level for the owner in the car is very high. wagon-r gives a neat-and-clean mileage of 14-16km/l.OVERALL, ITS A FANTASTIC CAR, I MUST SAY.

Good 1st car but dated now

By Pankaj Posted on 16 Oct 08, 03:18 AM

Pros Smooth, high stance, roomy trunk for a hatchback

Cons Cramped back seating, typical delicate Maruti body, ok interiors

Overall, WagonR is a value for money car. It is good especially for a tall person like me. Very smooth on smooth roads. But if you have to drive it in Mumbai, not great. It gives you thuds through your body in potholes and on speed-breakers. Looks are staid and interiors unexciting. But still reliable like all Maruti cars.
