Maruti Suzuki introduced the Alto K10 back in the year 2010, and got its first facelift in 2014. Alto nameplate is the Maruti’s all-time best selling brand. Its simple design and powerful and fuel-efficient engine pleases all. Where driving a big car becomes a challenge in urban areas, Alto K10 comes into the picture. To differentiate the car from Alto 800, the company has used sharp cuts and creases on the outside and inside too has been given a different pattern. Maruti Alto K10 is mainly targeted towards the enthusiastic customers who are seeking for the powerful hatch in the small car segment.
Exterior profile has been improved a lot, the front façade of the car gets large chrome radiator grille while headlamps are similar to the 800. Other noticeable aspects are octagonal air intake, bonnet curves to the headlamps while the bumper too, has been revised. At the side, the car features flared wheel arches and the overall design look bigger. Looking at the rear part, Alto 800 design is evident from the tail lamps. Though the car has grown bigger over the time, it’s still a compact hatchback. Alto K10 is offered in six different colour pallets they are Tango Orange, Silky Silver, Superior white, Cerulean Blue, Granite Grey and Fire Brick Red.
Interior of the Maruti Alto K10 has been given a stylish and impressive look. The car is more on space while the rear seats provide extra knee room to the occupants. Dashboard gets the combination of beige and blackish-grey that goes well with the design. The steering wheel is also modified and instrument cluster appears to be more improved version as seen in Alto 800. Maruti has worked on the music system for the top-spec models, it now gets the piano black colored 2-DIN system that supports USB and AUX.
Additional features include keyless entry, air conditioning vents, rear combination lamps and fabric upholstery. Looking at the safety aspects, Maruti Alto K10 gets features like driver side airbag, central locking, child safety lock, engine immobilizer and power door lock.
Under the hood, Maruti Alto K10 is powered by the 1.0L K-series mill. The engine is capable of generating the power output of 68PS and the maximum torque of 90Nm. The motor comes mated to 5-speed manual transmission while on the top-variant it gets AMT option as well. So with the AMT, Alto becomes as the cheapest automatic car.
Maruti Alto K10 is available in three different variants including LX, LXi, and VXi. In terms of pricing, its base variants LX is priced at Rs. 3.3 lakh, the mid-range trim LXi is available at the price tag of Rs. 3.46 lakh, while the top-selling model, as well as the top of the range, trim VXI, is tagged at Rs. 3.63 lakh. This fun-to-drive vehicle gives tough competition to the likes in the segment such as Hyundai Eon, Datsun Redi-GO, Renault Kwid and Tata Tiago.
The cabin of new Alto K10 has witnessed a dramatic transformation. Once inside, you will really appreciate the fresh design. The dual-toned beige and black dashboard is all new with the center console getting glossy black treatment. The quality and roominess of the cabin are further enhanced with the matte silver highlights across the cabin including steering, door handles, audio button and armrest. Though the fit and finish might not be up to the mark for some people, it will not break the deal given the pricing of the vehicle.
There is now more storage space with handy cup-holders. As per seating, this is the car best for 4 adults and not to throw in tall persons at the rear. It would be pretty unfair to expect this car to come loaded with features, given its entry-level position. However, you will still get satisfactory features of a small hatch including front power windows, internally adjustable ORVMs, gear shift indicator, keyless entry, fog lamps, air conditioning and power steering as well.
As far as music system goes, it is integrated and supports CD, USB, and Aux-In playback. The sound quality from the 2 speakers is of typical OEM while the bass levels are quite soothing.
The looks of the all-new Alto K10 has been revised thoroughly so as to give it a distinct appeal from the standard 800cc model. While it still shares the doors and roof design with the sibling Alto 800, the rest of the panels including the bonnet, front fenders, bumpers and the tailgate are exclusive to K10.
The car has larger swept back headlamps which now looks more contemporary with the air dam design given an aggressive touch. The grille design is also new while the minor creases on the panels lend it a muscular look. On the sides, the large 13-inch wheels and ORVM, as well as blackened B-pillars, are the elements which differentiate it from the standard 800cc model. The rear is almost identical to the sibling except for the subtle tailgate. Overall, K10 is still an Alto, but it has stronger and sportier character.
The K-series engine is known for its excellent fuel efficiency. And this time around, Maruti claims of significant improvement in this area. Both manual and AMT variants of Alto K10 returns ARAI certified mileage of 24.7kmpl, thanks to the retuning and lighter kerb weight.
The suspension system in the new Alto K10 is absorbent that translates into compliant low-speed ride quality. It doesn’t get bouncy like some of its nearest rivals. The car is convenient to drive in cities with lightness and agility in its blood. Low-speed ride quality is one of the plus points of this car.
The engine is the same 1.0L K-series petrol motor which pumps out 68PS and 90Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired with either 5-speed manual transmission or AMT depending on the model one chooses. The power-to-weight ratio of this car really makes it peppy in the cities.
The clutch pedal is very light in the manual variant and the engine really kicks into motion. The gear shift in the AMT variant is quite smooth and more sorted than the sibling Celerio. The K10 AMT also creeps forward quite well when you take off the foot from the accelerator.
The braking is at par with the contemporaries and progressive with a better bite on the road. The braking system works in line with the regular driving style but not tuned for hard driving. Not much can be expected when it comes to safety features in budget hatchbacks. But you still get optional driver side airbag, central locking, engine immobilizer and child safety lock.

The ‘want to go home for Diwali’ sign in this guy’s hands and him waiting for lift is what pops in my head every time I think of an Alto. It is unbelievable as to how many Altos Maruti has sold in the past decade. You could see an Alto everyday wherever you went. But everyone who owned an Alto
very poor car is interrier and rear look and high price
Recently bout Alto automatic. Maruthi Suzuki's AMT technology is so imperfect, the automatic gear malfunctions. Often fails to recognize that it is the reverse gear . Had scary moments on highways with gear getting stuck!. I have driven automatic cars in USA for last 35 yrs. I have never seen a worst car like Alto, automatic.
Let me start with the looks. Lookwise, the old alto K10 is far far better than the new one. The new alto k10 is same as that of alto 800 in terms of looks, there is no fun. As the saying goes first impression is the last impression. For me the looks have already disappointed me. I dont want to
I Brought K10 VXI on 10th jan,2015, its looks, style, interiors are realy appreciable, but it is slightly less spacious, specialy back seats and fuel economy not as per it offers on paper , but over all it is good
