Mahindra & Mahindra is popularly known for making robust and rugged passenger vehicles since a long time. With the raging demand of compact SUVs in the country in recent times, the company also struck the hot iron with the introduction of KUV100, an under 4-meter SUV especially designed for the youth of today. Mahindra has recently launched the updated model of KUV100 under the new NXT moniker. KUV100 despite getting healthy sales in the beginning has been moving at snail pace. So, to break through the stillness of low sales, Mahindra came up with the advanced KUV100 NXT. The car gets numerous changes on the inside and out while the engines remain the same.
On the outside, Mahindra KUV100 NXT features a muscular body that also looks stylish to the senses. The significant change seen in the SUV is in terms of design as it gets revamped front façade with lean radiator grille along with vertically placed chrome finished fillets. Headlamps are much wider at the front and get tapered towards the end that almost covers the hood. The overall appearance of the SUV is improved by the thick black cladding that provides the car with much needed front looks. Rectangular shaped fog lamps are tucked well within the cladding. Moving on the side profile, Mahindra KUV100 NXT gets square wheel arches, new alloys while the sharp creases emerging from the A-pillars enhance the outer appearance. The rear features clear lens tail lamps, new integrated spoiler, skid plates and fog lamps.
Currently, the compact SUV is offered in eight different colour pallets they are Flamboyant Red & Metallic Black, Dazzling Silver & Metallic Black, Fiery Orange, Pearl White, Dazzling Silver, Flamboyant Red, Designer Grey and Midnight Black.
Mahindra KUV100 on the inside gets dual tone grey and black colour scheme. The biggest change seen in the vehicle is the addition of a new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with navigation. The four speaker music system gets USB and Bluetooth connectivity along with steering mounted controls.
Though, not much has been changed inside the car, it retains the same old features such as keyless entry, rear parking sensors, electrically adjustable rear view mirror, height adjustable driver seat and Air Conditioner. The car gets 6 seats as standard while the 5-seater variant is also available on order. As far as boot space is concerned, the car offers 243L of space which can be increased to almost double (473L) if the rear seats are folded back.
The safety features in the car include dual airbags, standard ABS, EBD, central locking, engine immobilizer, and child safety lock.
Under the hood, Mahindra KUV100 NXT sources its power from 1.2L mFalcon G80 petrol mill that belts out 82bhp and 114Nm of maximum torque. It’s 1.2L mFalcon D75 diesel engine is capable of generating 77bhp of power and 190Nm of peak torque. Both the powertrains come mated to 5-speed manual transmission while its G80 oil burner is a micro hybrid with start/stop technology and diesel gets driving modes like Power and Eco.
Mahindra KUV100 NXT is available in five different variants- K2, K2+, K4+, K6+ and K8 to select from. In terms of pricing, KUV100 is competitively priced with its base variant K2 tagged at Rs. 4.51 lakh and the top range trim K8 5STR available at Rs. 7.56 lakh,ex-showroom, Delhi. Mahindra KUV100 falls altogether in a new segment but it can be compared to the likes of Maruti Ignis, Hyundai Grand i10 and Maruti Swift taking price and practicality in mind.

The inside of KUV100 features a great deal of refinements. The dashboard is similar to the earlier version, however, the cabin is not much darker, thanks to the fabrics and light coloured plastics. And it looks all the good with all those textures on the dashboard, piano black inserts and silver accents giving it a touch of premiumness.
The most evident change inside is the addition of new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment which can be availed in the mid and top variants. The system host plenty of tech including connectivity options for USB, Bluetooth and Aux-In. The intuitive touchscreen infotainment can also be voice controlled along with full-fledged GPS navigation and facility of image and video playback. Another interesting aspect of the infotainment is the new driver information display that keeps you updated on vital stats of the vehicle such as mileage, distance to empty and visuals for the rear parking sensors. The decibels are amplified by 4-speakers with 2 tweeters.
Coming to the seating and comfort, the 6-seat configuration has now been made standard. This configuration is perfect for a family of four with two grandparents. The car is equipped with air conditioner with new electronic temperature control panel that sits below right below the infotainment. The vehicle gets a joystick gear lever and electric power steering with tilt functionality. Other features include driver seat height adjuster, cooled glove box, follow-me home headlamps, internally adjustable ORVMs, front and rear armrest and cup holder, remote keyless entry while from the same remote key, the tailgate can also be opened.

At exteriors, the majority of the design elements remain unchanged, yet the muscularity and aggressiveness is a notch above. The most obvious change can be seen in headlight cluster which now features dual chambers for low and high beam along with restyled indicators and DRLs. The revamped front bumpers make way for distinctive air dam and revised fog lamps, while the grille too gets nice chrome treatment. The contrasting silver skid plate at the bottom is well defined and gives the car a more rugged look.
Further solidifying KUV100’s look is the inclusion of 15-inch sporty diamond cut alloy wheels and new ORVMs with integrated turn indicators. The door handles at the back are now black in colour and looks nothing like before. Other visible changes at the back are in the form of restyled bumper, new integrated spoiler and revised tailgate with new creases running across. The tail lights get a clear lens covering while the dual tone colour scheme makes the car more palatable to senses.

Mileage Running Cost

Mahindra has installed micro-hybrid technology in the car which gives about 3-4 percent boost to the overall fuel efficiency. This makes the diesel engine capable of delivering 23kmpl and the petrol one to return ARAI certified 17.45kmpl.

Comfort Suspension

The suspension of the car has been tuned to be on the softer side. This makes the vehicle extremely comfortable on bad roads and driving on speed bumps is like a breeze. The car fairs in both urban and rugged driving conditions. The automaker has also added a new silent engine mount for improving NVH levels.

Engine Performance

Mahindra KUV100 NXT is available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol engine is the 1.2L mFalcon motor that produces 82bhp and 114Nm of max torque. The diesel one is the 1.2L D75 from the same mFalcon family. The motor pumps out 77bhp and peak torque of 190Nm. Both the engines are paired to slick and precise 5-speed manual gearbox which has been developed in collaboration with Porsche engineering. The powertrains provide smooth drivability and one can cruise around at higher revs with the adequate pep able to keep pace with the traffic.

Braking Safety

The disc upfront and drum at the rear provides the needed braking force to the car. The braking mechanism is further supplemented by anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution. Further, the car’s safety quotient is strengthened by dual front airbags which are available across the trims, save the base K2 variant. Other safety features include ISOFIX child seat mounts, rear parking sensors, child safety locks, speed sensing auto door locks, anti-theft security, automatic hazard warning lamps among others.
