Review of Hyundai Xcent

Overview

The Hyundai Xcent compact sedan is based on the platform of the Hyundai Grand i10 hatchback much like the Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire and Honda Amaze. Both Maruti and Honda have tasted tremendous success with its compact sedans and its Hyundai’s turn now. What the Xcent packs in to trump its rivals is a host features that none of its rivals can boast of, such as climate control, rear parking sensors, rear view camera, cooled glovebox, keyless start/stop, rear air vents, rear centre armrest, electric folding mirrors, lots of cubby holes and storage spaces, dual tone interiors and a double-din stereo with Bluetooth connectivity, 1GB of internal storage space and steering mounted controls.

On the design front, the Xcent has an identical front profile as its hatchback sibling as its sports the same headlamps, grille and bumper. The side profile is similar too with all of the car remaining identical till the C-Pillar that gives way to a boot. The rear of the car has very conservative lines and the large tail lamps look ungainly at best.

The interiors of the Hyundai Xcent are also identical to that of it’s hatchback counterpart. And this is a good thing as it comes well equipped like the Grand i10 by sporting features such as climate control, rear parking sensors, rear view camera, cooled glovebox, keyless start/stop, rear air vents, rear centre armrest, electric folding mirrors, lots of cubby holes and storage spaces, dual tone interiors and a double-din stereo with Bluetooth connectivity, 1GB of internal storage space and steering mounted controls.

Engine options for the Hyundai Xcent include the 1.2 litre Kappa2 four cylinder petrol engine from the i20 and Grand i10 developing 84PS of power @ 6,000 rpm and 114Nm of torque 4,000 rpm. The diesel engine is the 1.4 litre four cylinder engine from the i20 developing 90PS of power @ 4,000 rpm and 210Nm of torque between 1,500 rpm and 2,750 rpm.
