Overview

Hyundai introduced the first ever Grand i10 in the late 2013 and it instantly became the top-selling B-segment hatch in the subcontinent. All that happened because of the vehicle’s attractive style, well-built interiors, generous equipment and efficient powertrains. Whenever Hyundai launches a new hatchback, there is always a ton of excitement and the new Grand i10 certainly qualifies as the most exciting hatch to come to India and that too, after a long span of time. Korean auto giant has made a great effort and left no stone unturned. This time, Hyundai has provided the car with a mid-life update and focused on almost all areas to give it a new identity.
On the outside, Hyundai Grand i10 facelift gets the fresh looks and restyled rear and front bumpers. The front radiator grille has been completely changed and now it looks more aggressive. Headlamps too are redone and it now comes with LED DRLs on higher trims. Air intakes are flanked by round shaped fog lamps. The side profile gets new 14-inch diamond cut alloy wheels while the rear bumper is reworked as well. Hyundai Grand i10 is available in vibrant colours namely Red Passion, Star Dust, Golden Orange, Pure white, Sleek Silver and Twilight Blue.
Step inside and you’ll get to see one of the best cabins in the segment. Built quality is up to the mark and quite impressive. Space inside the car is also generous, boot space is measured at 256L. The gadgetry included in the list is automatic climate control, new 7-inch touchscreen unit, push start button and rear AC vents. The car also gets keyless entry, height adjustable driver seat, steering mounted audio control and rear parking sensors among the long list of features.
Hyundai Grand i10 is powered by the 1.2L Kappa petrol engine that produces the power output of 83PS and generates the peak torque of 114Nm. The motor comes mated to 5-speed manual gearbox and 4-speed automatic transmission. Another engine is the newly added 1.2L diesel that belts the power output of 75PS and produces peak torque of 190Nm. This oil burner comes with 5-speed manual transmission. The petrol mill feels more lively and powerful and is excellent for city drive. The claimed fuel efficiency is 18.9kmpl for petrol and 24kmpl for the diesel.
The safety aspects remain identical with the car getting driver side airbags and engine immobilizer as standard across the range. Other features in the vehicle are ABS, passenger side airbag, central locking, rear wiper, power door lock and child safety lock. Hyundai Grand i10 rivals the likes in the segment they are Nissan Micra, Honda Brio, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Tata Tiago, Ford Figo, Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Mahindra KUV100 NXT.
Hyundai Grand i10 is available in four different variants including Era, Magna, Sportz, and Asta. Looking at the pricing details, its base trim Era gets the price tag of Rs. 4.69 lakh and goes up to Rs. 7.46 lakh. Its top-selling variant 1.2 CRDI Sportz is available at the price tag of Rs. 7.06 lakh. Overall, the facelifted model looks nice, better equipped and comes with improved drivability and powerful diesel engine, all that makes it a better car against the rival Maruti Swift, Ford Figo and Maruti Suzuki Ignis in the segment.

Interior

People familiar with the car will find the similar ambiance inside. The carmaker has retained the upmarket cabin with the two-tone dashboard and steering remaining the same as before. However, they do get subtle changes. The key attention will be definitely the new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with the interface similar to that of sibling Elantra sedan. And this is not a plain jane unit but powered by Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and even MirrorLink. The navigation apps of your smartphone can be easily integrated into the system.
The infotainment also provides visuals from the rear camera. On the other hand, the lower variants get the 5-inch touchscreen unit which supports USB, Bluetooth, and Aux-in connectivity. The output from the 4-speakers is good enough for the car of this stature.
The seats have now become more comfortable and supportive. They now get the right amount of cushioning to keep you tucked in. You get ample amount of legroom at the rear. The height adjustable driver seat and the tiltable steering wheel set you in the preferred driving position. Coming to the feature list, the carmaker this time has installed automatic climate control which adds more to the comfort factor. And the rear ac vents are just icing on the cake, especially in the torching summer weathers.
Further, the feature list continues to impress us with the addition of voice recognition button added to the steering wheel. Other than that, you get the same comfort and convenience including power outlets at front and rear, cooled glovebox, one-touch power windows, push-start stop button and electrically adjustable ORVM. Talking about space, as the name (grand) suggests, it’s utterly convenient for 5 passengers. The car offers best in segment 256L of boot space.

Exterior

Honestly speaking, Hyundai Grand i10 has never been a looker. The aim of the carmaker was rather more on functionality than the appearance. Hence, the car still looks clearheaded but appeal a large number of enthusiasts without attempting to impress a particular niche of customers. The facelifted model brings an all new front look with the headlights and the upper portion of the grille carried from the previous model. The changes can be seen in the form hexagonal grille going a little angular along with changes in the bumper.
Then there is alteration in the fog lamp enclosure which is now sleek and features air ducts on the top, foglamps in the mid and LED daytime running lights at the bottom. All these changes at the front lend the car a sportier look. At the sides, the only addition is the new 14-inch diamond-cut alloys adding to the bold character. The rear profile features revised bumper and a large black plastic board running across the breadth of the car. Overall, the car has been improved on the design front and scores well in terms of contemporariness.

Mileage Running Cost

In this update, the carmaker has tweaked the engines a little to marginally improve the mileage figures. Hyundai has added new alternator management system and with the improved aerodynamics, the car promises to return good mileage. Where the petrol powered Grand i10 delivers ARAI certified 18.9kmpl, the diesel on the other hand, returns 24kmpl.

Comfort Suspension

The suspension setup of the new Grand i10 has been tweaked and boy, that’s the area where it shines. The car gobbles up the bad roads and potholes without breaking a sweat. The ride quality is amplified by nice NVH levels that make the car damp and serene on roads. It clearly feels like you are sitting in a segment above car.

Engine Performance

Earlier, Hyundai had a chink in its armor i.e. an underpowered 1.1L diesel engine. This time around, the carmaker has added a more powerful diesel motor that pumps out extra horses. The new 1.2L 3-cylinder U2 CRDi diesel engine makes 75PS (up from 71PS) and 190Nm (up from 160Nm) of torque. The engine retains its refined and responsive character and it’s so smooth that its feel like a petrol engine. Power is delivered in a linear manner without any noticeable turbo lag.
The petrol engine is the same tried and tested 1.2L Kappa Dual VTVT motor that produces 83PS and 113Nm of max torque. The engine is refined and produces a nice exhaust note on start. The performance remains the same but the improved drivability let you hold the car in higher gears at moderate city speeds without any signs of resistance from the engine.
In terms of gearboxes, the petrol engine is available in both 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission. The diesel one comes mated to 5-speed manual gearbox.

Braking Safety

The brakes of the car offer a strong bite force with the pedal being firm. The car comes to standstill in a few seconds. The safety kit remains identical to the previous model and lags behind the competition. The only thing standard in the car is dual front airbags.
But as you move to higher variants, you get anti-lock braking system, passenger side airbag, keyless entry, rear parking sensors with camera, impact sensing door lock and central locking.

i10 is not magna any more

I was initially impressed by hearsay and published reviews and bought an i10 with all company accessories with 0 dep insurance. I wish to make future buyers aware of realities. However, the average is much below par around 15-18 for CNG . Also within first couple of months use the plastic parts, guards, flap and others have started falling apart. Read More

Except for a poor fuel efficiency, it is an excellent car.

My 4 12 month old car has just done a run of 1674 km,. It is a superb car in all respects except fuel efficiency. For a petrol automatic Grand I10 , in city, I am getting an average of 8 km per litre. For this reason I am considering selling this car if I get a good offer. Read More
