Launched in the Indian market in 2006, the Honda Civic instantly became a hit with Honda fans. It re-wrote the rules of the D segment cars in India and went on to be a best-seller for Honda in this segment of cars. The first thing that struck most of its prospective owners was its modern and jazzy exterior looks. The Civic even today looks sharp and its striking design lines haven’t really become dated. Infact, the Civic got a couple of mild updates last year and continues to look smart.

The same sharp design theme is seen on the interior as well. Step into the cabin and you are greeted with one of the sportiest fascia and central console in the D segment cars. The steering wheel for instance has a very racy design and the digital speedometer console, pushed back near the windscreen, looks very modern. The Civic scores high on the comfort and space front as well. Infact, the flat rear floor-board adds to the rear passenger comfort. Like any other Honda, the Civic scores high on the practicality point as well with multiple cubby holes, glass and bottle holders.

As time progressed and fuel prices rose, the Civic’s shortcomings start appearing. Like any other Honda in India today, the Civic too comes with only a petrol engine. It is no doubt a very refined and smooth motor and offers good performance to enthusiasts, but the fact that the Civic lacks a diesel engine is showing in its sales chart. That said, for petrol lovers, the Civic’s 1.8-litre 132PS engine does the job very well and has an ARAI certified fuel economy of 14.8 and 13.9kmpl for the manual and automatic transmissions respectively. Its automatic variant also comes with paddle-shifters which adds to the drive experience.

The Civic also scores high on the suspension front which is tuned well for Indian roads. However, the downside is its limited ground clearance which means that with a load of four adults, it’s a common thing for the Civic to touch its under-belly over bad roads / speed breakers. The Honda Civic range starts at Rs 12.2 lakh for the 1.8S MT version, going upto Rs 14.4 lakh for the 1.8V AT (with sun-roof) variant – all prices ex-showroom, Delhi.

Expert Speak: If you want a petrol D segment car, the Civic is a very good buy – looks great, has spacious interiors and a gem of an engine!

Honda Civic vs Toyota Altis

By RATAN SINGH Posted on 12 Sep 08, 06:17 AM

Pros Stunning looks, cool styling

Cons What is that?

It’s really fantastic car to have. I have bought last month and really enjoying drive. If you are buying (upgrading) second car then just go for Honda Civic. Not only you but your family and friends will enjoy the ride and will fill proud. If you really want to enjoy Civic ride then take just drive on Mum-Pun expresses way. The new Toyota Altis has many features of Honda Civic and some additional futures like fuel efficiency indicator, Headlamp Washer but doesn’t have that elegance and aerodynamic shape.

HONDA CIVIC HYBRID COMPETING WITH MERCEDES, BMW, VOLKSWAGEN & more, read the article to know more!

By RATAN SINGH Posted on 01 Aug 08, 01:35 AM

Pros Car with good dynamics & off course \\\\\\\\

Cons Exorbitant Price.... lack of refinement in the interior & exterior wrt conventional Civic

Taking nothing away from HONDA, they have done it again by being the first company in India to launch the Hybrid technology clubbed with the Civic. Everything remains the same except for the engine which in Hybrid variant contains an advanced DC motor and just for this fact, the price shoots from 12 lakhs to 24 lakhs (exactly twice as much). Although its a wise initiation from Honda but who\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s gonna come forward to pay such an hefty amount.... only insanely rich environmentalists. Consider this, how about buying a brand spanking Mercedes Benz C class fitted with an advanced CNG motor. Such an innovation will cost 27 lakhs (for the car) + 75k (for the kit) = 27.75 lakhs. Such an idea will give similar benefits but with the exception that it won\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t be a Honda, it will be a Mercedes, makers of one of the World\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s most luxurious cars. The price tag has taken Honda Civic Hybrid to a different class all together where it will struggle to even find a single solitaire customer, and those who indeed are born with a golden spoon.... how about upgrading to a Mercedes Benz or even a flashing BMW 3 Series in just 3.75 Lakhs more!!!

CIVIC HYBRID

By Rahul Bose Posted on 30 Jul 08, 07:15 AM

Pros Excellent CAR in every aspect

Cons Ridiculous PRICING

Government should make import excise duty ZERO on environment friendly products like HYBRIDS and FUEL-CELL cars. And the government should encourage all Car manufacturers to go in that direction, by installing HYDROGEN GAS STATIONS like CNG or LPG. So when across the country there will be HYDROGEN gas stations, then companies like TOYOTA, HONDA and GM will be more than eager to bring their Better and Future products here in India. This will save not only India\\\'s environment, but also the WORLD, but contributing to reduce Global Warming.
