Review of Honda Accord 2007-2008

Overview

The Accord got a mild update in Feb 2011 and seems to tick all the right boxes in terms of looks, class, comfort and luxury for a typical buyer of this segment. The new Accord is one of the best looking luxury sedans in its price segment inspite of being around for almost three years in this avatar. Class and opulence are words often associated with the way the Accord carries itself. This is the 8th generation accord and Honda has further tweaked up its exterior design recently. The bumper gets a minor facelift and gets complemented well by the new grille. The rear is enhanced with some chrome bezel around the taillights On the inside, you are greeted with luxurious and well crafted interiors.

The Accord is a very spacious and comfortable place to be on the inside for five adults. There are changes here in the upgraded model and the 2.4-litre engine now gets a sun-roof as standard. The steering wheel gets buttons for the cruise control system but surprisingly you don’t get controls for the music system. To complete the package, the 2.4-litre version also gets wooden inserts in the cabin. Lastly, the car now gets a Jackknife key as standard too. The V6 3.5-litre and 2.4-litre models also have a provision for Bluetooth connectivity and customers can buy it as a Honda Genuine Accessory. The Accord retains all its previous traits of a very comfortable car. Those who love to do back-seat driving won’t really have a reason to complain There is enough leg room, the seats very comfortable and control for the audio system is on avail too.

The Accord continues to be powered by the 2.4-litre four-cylinder as well as the 3.0-litre V6 motor, both being petrol powered and remain unchanged. Like any other Honda engine, they are butter cream smooth and reasonably efficient as well. At the same time though, we at Gaadi.com strongly believe that a diesel option will surely make a huge difference in its sales. The 2.4-litre engine produces 180SP of power with 222Nm of torque and is available in both manual and automatic options. It also has an ARAI rated economy of 12.8 and 11.7kmpl for the manual and auto versions respectively.  The V6 has 275PS which more than most of the higher class sedans in the market. The kind of power this engine puts out is tremendous and can easily teach other expensive sedans in the market a thing or two about performance. The 3.0 V6 option is only sold with an auto gearbox and has an ARAI rated economy of 10.20kmpl. Like all Honda cars, the steering is on the lighter side as well which helps in city commutes. The Accord range starts at Rs 20.2 to 27.3 lakhs ex-showroom. The V6 is expenisve for sure but overall the Accord still makes a good luxury choice as it has a good blend of comfort, style and the Honda image and service to fall back on.

Interior

The Accord has always scored top marks as far as cabin quality, space and luxury feel goes. On the inside, you are greeted with luxurious and well crafted interiors. The Accord is a very spacious and comfortable place to be on the inside for five adults. There are changes here in the upgraded model and the 2.4-litre engine now gets a sun-roof as standard. The steering wheel gets buttons for the cruise control system but surprisingly you don’t get controls for the music system! I am sure those who like to do the driving themselves will take note of this omission instantly. The good part is that the existing music system has been beefed and definitely sounds at par with some of the more expensive luxury sedans in the market.

Those who love to do back-seat driving won’t really have a reason to complain. There is enough leg room, the seats very comfortable and control for the audio system is on avail too

The Honda Accord is, without a doubt, a striking luxury sedan and despite of not offering a diesel option, manages to sell almost the same number of units as one of its main competitors, which ofcourse does offer an oil-burner option. The reasons for the Accord’s popularity are plenty. Comfort Suspension

The Accord is meant for pure luxury and hence it comes as no surprise that the suspension is tuned more for comfort than for enthusiastic driving. This is a vehicle that feels best on open roads at triple digit speeds when all the minor imperfections are being absorbed easily by the set-up. Road noise is limited and NVH levels very good.

Engine Performance

The Accord continues to be powered by the 2.4-litre four-cylinder as well as the 3.0-litre V6 motor, both being petrol powered and remain unchanged. Like any other Honda engine, they are butter cream smooth and reasonably efficient as well. At the same time though, we at Gaadi.com strongly believe that a diesel option will surely make a huge difference in its sales. The 2.4-litre engine produces 180SP of power with 222Nm of torque and is available in both manual and automatic options.

For enthusiasts, the 3.0-litre model is the one to go for. It’s technologically advanced too, firing anywhere from three to six cylinders depending on the throttle inputs. Maximum power output stands at 275PS which more than most of the higher class sedans in the market. The kind of power this engine puts out is tremendous and can easily teach other expensive sedans in the market a thing or two about performance.

These replicate the vibrations that are out of phase with the original ones and counteract the engine displacements in any direction so that none of these vibrations are transmitted into the cabin. Then to compensate for the boom, they use Active Noise Control System that cancels out any booming noises in real time by emitting out of phase sound waves from

  • What we like

V6 is great to drive, 2.4 is smooth.

  • What we dislike

    No diesel engine offered.

Braking Safety

Like all Honda cars, the steering is on the lighter side as well which helps in city commutes. It frees up as speeds build up and though it isnt very direct in the feedback, you never feel nervous or insecure while doing high speeds. While the 2.4 model comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, the more powerful V6 version comes with lower profile 17-inch wheels which go aid handling a lot. Braking is good with ABS with EBD. Plus it has driver and passenger airbags.

Brakes and Wheels

  • Handling

The potent, light and free-revving V6 is an absolute joy to use. It delivers considerable punch after 4500rpm and the best bit is that it keeps pulling hard in a linear manner all the way to 7000rpm.While the Accord does feel well balanced and points in nicely, the soft suspension, inert steering and only average agility mean this is a car that does not really like being cornered hard.

  • Braking Performance

Honda Accord is equipped with Power-Assisted Ventilated Front Disc/Solid Rear Disc Brakes 11.8 / 11.1 inches which is quite good at its performance.

  • Safety Features

Front 3-Point Seat Belts with Automatic Tensioning System Driver's and Front Passenger's Seat Belt Reminder , Dual-Stage, Multiple-Threshold Front Airbags (SRS), Dual-Chamber Front Side Airbags with Passenger-Side, Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS), Side Curtain Airbags, Driver's and Front Passenger's Active Head Restraints, Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) Body Structure Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with Traction Control Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) Electronic Brake D

  • Abs

Dual-Chamber Front Side Airbags with Passenger-Side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS)

  • Traction Control

There is a vehicle stability assist system which also incorporates a traction control that can be switched off. It can come quite handy during insane lane change maneuvers but its full potential couldn’t be realized on the straight roads.

  • What we like

    Handling is improved.

  • What we dislike

Not as much safety features like other rivals, handling still floaty.
