Ford introduced its money-spinning hatchback Figo back in the year 2010. And over the time span of 5 years, the company had managed to get the right numbers of faithful customers and sold about 300,000 units of the car. And this number was considered as good as it goes up with the amazing Maruti Suzuki Swift in the segment. Later in the year 2015, the American automaker launched the next generation Figo with inside and out getting a major overhaul. The all new Figo gets the eye catchy looks, lighter built, loaded with features and with powerful engines on board. Underpinning the same platform, Ford Figo hatchback can be called as the boot-less version of Aspire. Ford is all ready to launch its facelift in 2018 but the date for its introduction has not yet revealed.
Talking about the exteriors, the front façade of the Figo carries the attractive hexagonal radiator grille that gets slim chrome lining along with four horizontal chrome slats. Swept back headlamps add to its aggression while its bonnet features muscular lines on both the sides. The rear profile of the car is smart looking and you receive reverse+ fog lights on both the sides. The vehicle is offered in vibrant colours they are Smoke Grey, Moondust Silver, Ruby Red, Sparkling Gold, Absolute Black, Oxford White and Deep Impact Blue.
The cabin inside is airy and backed up by a great amount of inner space. Similarity with the Aspire sedan is quite evident with the same dashboard and three-spoke steering wheel. Even some of the features embedded inside are same in both the cars. Figo gets black interiors with matte silver accents and touch of chrome. Fit and finish inside is nothing short of excellence and doesn’t feel cheap while its fabric upholstery is fairly sculptured. All the control buttons are well laid and are very easy to use. Ford Figo on the feature front gets 4-speaker sound system and a 4.2-inch multi-functional display that supports USB, MP3, Bluetooth and AUX. The car also boasts of comfort aspects such as steering mounted controls, climate control, keyless entry, electrically adjustable rear view mirror and height adjustable driver’s seat.
On the safety front, Ford has provided maximum cover to the passengers with features like airbags, ABS with EBD, Child safety lock, central locking, engine immobilizer, power door lock, turn indicators on ORVM and traction control.
Mechanically, Ford Figo is available in both the diesel and petrol mills. It’s 1.2L Ti-VCT engine can produce the power output of 87bhp and peak torque of 112Nm while the 1.5L petrol motor makes 110bhp of power and 136Nm of peak torque. Another 1.5L TDCi diesel powertrain can produce 99bhp of power and 215Nm of maximum torque.
Ford Figo is available in a total of 5 variants such as Base, Ambient, Trend, Titanium and Titanium+. The pricing details for the model vary depending on the transmission and engine. The base trim gets the price tag of Rs. 5.37 lakh and the top spec model is available at Rs. 8.10 lakh, ex-showroom, New Delhi. Figo has managed to carve its own niche in this cut-throat competition where Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Grand i10 are already fighting for their own chunk of shares.

As the car is relatively longer as compared to its competitors, the breadth can be seen inside as well. The wheelbase of 2491mm provides ample knee room for the rear passengers. The cabin is spacious with comfortable seats that are very well supported. Every detail on the dashboard resembles that of elder sibling Aspire except the silver and grey colour combination. The lighter colour scheme has also added airiness inside the cabin.
The three-pod instrument cluster not only looks good but also informative and easy to read. The v-shaped center console is in line with Ford’s design philosophy which also houses 4.2inch SYNC multimedia infotainment system with USB, Bluetooth, and Aux in connectivity. In terms of equipment, the hatch gets automatic climate control, 3-spoke steering wheel, mounted audio controls, MyFord Dock, Ford MyKey for restricting speed and volume, 20 different storage spaces and height adjustable driver seat.

Coming to the looks, the car is from the front is nearly identical to that of Aspire sedan. It boasts of Aston Martin Esque trapezoidal grille with 4-chrome slats horizontally placed. The swept back headlamps and the same bumper design add to the aggression. The side profile of the car is well proportioned with similar wheel arches and the roofline blending into the rear quite well. The 14-inch alloys could have been larger and better to match the aggressive character of the car.
It is the rear part that makes a lot of distinction between the two duos. Most of the rear part is occupied by the large bumper. The reversing lamps and the fog lights have been neatly integrated into the wrap-around tail light cluster. Overall, the car shows a dash of aggression not to be found in its competitors.

Mileage Running Cost

All the engines offered in the car are crafted to deliver not only ample power but excellent fuel economy as well. Where the 1.2L petrol motor delivers 18.16kmpl, the 1.5L automatic one returns ARAI certified 17kmpl. The 1.5L diesel engine, on the other hand, claims a fuel efficiency of 25.83kmpl.

Comfort Suspension

The suspension has been tweaked for maximum comfort and completely in line with mass-market taste. And the comfort centric design is reflected in the suspension setup. The car fairly manages bad roads and undulations with the impressive 174mm ground clearance adding more to the comfort factor by aptly dealing with potholes.
The car shines at low speeds, offering compliant ride quality to both front and rear passengers. The steering is also light in the cities and behaves just like other modern hatchbacks.

Engine Performance

Ford Figo is offered in choices of two petrol and one diesel engine shared from EcoSport and Fiesta. The 1.2L petrol unit produces 87bhp and 112Nm of torque and paired to 5-speed manual transmission. The more powerful 1.5L TDCi mill makes 110bhp and 136Nm of torque, mated to 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. The power delivery in the engine is seamless with minimal turbo lag.
The 1.5L Ti-VCT diesel engine is able to churn out 99bhp and 215Nm of torque. Where the engine keeps the city drivers happy, it truly shines on the highways with excellent cruising ability.

Braking Safety

The front disc and drum at the rear give the car impressive braking capability. The brakes offer decent bite and the behavior is also predictable right to some extent. Ford has been on a generous side when it comes to offering safety features. The driver side airbag is standard across the range while the dual airbags are also available across the variants except for the base trim.
The top variant is loaded with 6-airbags, something that is still missing in 4 times expensive cars. The car also features ABS and EBD, traction control, ESP and hill launch assist. Overall, in terms of prioritizing safety, the carmaker has done a commendable job.

    My sister’s new Ford Figo

Not my decision completely, but my sister bought a Ford Figo. I remember the old variant and looks of the Figo which was an absolute stunner for it was cute from all angles. The new Figo, however, doesn’t look that good but it’s a nice attempt and my sister is very picky so must be something done right. This one’s Read More
