Review of Audi Q5

Overview

Audi has launched the new Q5 in India. The changes to the exteriors include a new six-point grille, re-designed bumper and upgraded taillights and headlamps. What you will like is the interior design of the headlights which has been modified and you get LED daytime running lights. Audi also offers the optional adaptive light with dynamic cornering light and static turning light. The black Single frame grille with its vertical chrome struts and the famous Audi rings give it more presence. The updated SUV is 4.63 meters (15.19 feet) long, 1.90 meters (6.23 feet) wide and 1.65 meters (5.41 feet) tall.

The leather upholstery on the seats provide side support when driving hard and good under thigh support to the passenger and driver. Leg space looked a little cramped when the car was parked. As it turned out, the seat was set so far back that inspite of being close to six feet, I could not reach the peddles. When the seat was adjusted to my driving position there was more than adequate leg space for the rear passengers. The interior of the new Audi Q5 now has many of the  controls like the steering column control stalks, ignition key and instruments which are modifified.  New Audi Q5 has got modfied engines in form of 2.0 TFSI making 225 PS and 2.0 TDI making 177 PS. There is also the3.0-litre, V6 diesel with common-rail diesel injection that makes 245bhp. Drawing on four cylinders and two litres of displacement as well, the 2.0 TDI is superbly refined thanks to a new common-rail fuel injection system; like the petrol engine, it has two balancing shafts. The 3.0 diesel is fun to drive and is very powerful. Audi has improved the fuel economy in the Q5 and the 2.0 TDI now gives 16.66 kmpl which is impressive. The new Audi Q5 has a 7-speed gearbox while the petrol gets 8-speed gearbox. The pioneer of all-wheel drive, Audi equips the Audi Q5 as standard with quattro permanent all-wheel drive. The 2013 Q5 in India with a starting price of Rs 43.16 lakh ex-Delhi. For a detailed analysis read below.

Interior

When it comes to the interiors, there have been small changes. The leather upholstery on the seats gives side support when driving hard and good under thigh support to the passenger and driver. Leg space looked a little cramped when the car was parked. As it turned out, the seat was set so far back that inspite of being close to six feet, I could not reach the peddles. When the seat was adjusted to my driving position there was more than adequate leg space for the rear passengers. The interior of the new Audi Q5 now has many of the user controls with a narrow chrome trim; the steering column control stalks, ignition key and instruments were given subtle modifications. The narrow panels of the center console are high-gloss black.

  • What we like

The interiors are spacious and loaded

  • What we dislike

    Interior is conservatively designed

Exterior

The Q5 is always a handsome SUV.  The changes to the exteriors include a new six-point grille, re-designed bumper and upgraded taillights and headlamps. The updated Q5 is 4.63 meters (15.19 feet) long, 1.90 meters (6.23 feet) wide and 1.65 meters (5.41 feet) tall.

  • What we like

Updated Q5 looks fresh and handsome

  • What we dislike

    Similar Audi language

Mileage Running Cost

Audi has improved the fuel economy in the Q5 and the 2.0 TDI now gives 16.66 kmpl which is impressive.

  • What we like

    2.0 TDI gives great efficiency

Comfort Suspension

On the other hand, the Q5 impresses at low as well as high speeds and manages to negotiate every sort of surface appropriately. There is very little body-roll, good stability through corners and a very comfortable drive at the same time. Be it in the city or on the highways, the Q5 feels at home. What impressed us even more was that you couldn’t hear the road noise or the engine in the cabin while driving at high speeds in the Q5.

  • What we like

    New Q5 rides much better

  • What we dislike

Sharp potholes get the new Q5

Engine Performance

New Audi Q5 has updated engines in form of 2.0 TFSI making 225 PS and 2.0 TDI making 177 PS. There is also the3.0-litre, V6 diesel with common-rail diesel injection and a variable vane turbo that makes 245bhp. Drawing on four cylinders and two litres of displacement as well, the 2.0 TDI is superbly refined thanks to a new common-rail fuel injection system; like the petrol engine, it has two balancing shafts. The 3.0 diesel is fun to drive and is very powerful.

  • What we like

    3.0 diesel is astounding

  • What we dislike

    2.0 diesel needs more grunt

Braking Safety

The new Audi Q5 has a 7-speed gearbox while the petrol gets 8-speed gearbox. The pioneer of all-wheel drive, Audi equips the Audi Q5 as standard with quattro permanent all-wheel drive. In normal running conditions, the transfer case distributes the power to the front and rear axle in a 40:60 ratio for a rear-focused style that enhances driving pleasure. When needed, the quattro driveline can deliver up to 65 percent of the power to the front axle and a maximum of 85 percent to the rear axle. It has ABD and ESP among other safety features.

  • What we like

Q5 is stable around corners and is fun to drive

  • What we dislike

    Light steering
