XL6 May Undercut Marazzo In Pricing

  • Aug 19, 2019

Indo-Japanese carmaker Maruti Suzuki will introduce the XL6 multipurpose vehicle (MPV) on 21 August and the car will be sold through the Nexa range of dealerships. The XL6 is reportedly a premium version of the Ertiga and will have a number of cosmetic updates and new features. Maruti has already opened bookings for the brand new car on the company’s official website and at Nexa dealerships.

The XL6 won’t be available with a diesel option. It will be hauled by a 1.5-litre mild hybrid petrol motor borrowed from the Ertiga. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. The XL6 will be sold in the Alpha and Zeta models and will get an optional 4-speed automatic transmission (AT) unit. The 1.5-litre manual Zeta and Alpha are expected to command an ex-showroom price of ₹9.50 lakh and ₹10.20 lakh respectively. The 1.5-litre AT version of the two models are likely to be pegged at ₹10.50 lakh and ₹11.20 lakh respectively.

The price of XL6 is likely to include a premium over the Ertiga since it will be better equipped than the latter. The Zeta model will be based on the Ertiga ZXi trim while the Alpha version will be borrowed from the Zxi+. Both the Zeta and Alpha models are expected to get faux skid plates, multi-reflector LED headlamps with daytime running lights (DRLs), leatherette upholstery, inside-out all-black treatment, and cruise control.

The Maruti Suzuki XL6 will compete with the Mahindra Marazzo and Renault Lodgy in its class. None of the two latter cars, however, have a petrol engine. The Lodgy commands an ex-showroom price between ₹8.63 lakh to ₹12.12 lakh. The Marazzo, on its part, is pegged between ₹10.35 lakh to ₹14.76 lakh. The XL6 at its expected entry-level price of ₹9.50 lakh, may undercut the Marazzo by a fair margin. Mahindra is expected to introduce the Marazzo petrol-AT next year.
