Kia Motors India has commenced the assembly line production of its maiden car, the Seltos, which will debut on 22 August. The Seltos is being touted to be offered in a price range of ₹10-17 lakh. The company has already opened bookings for the midsized sports utility vehicle (SUV) for a token amount of ₹25,000.

The Seltos is being offered in a 1.5-litre diesel and 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol motor. A 1.5-litre standard petrol engine is also available as an option. The engines are paired either to a 6-speed manual gear system, a continuously variable transmission (CVT), or a dual-clutch transmission (DCT)

The Seltos will be sold in the GT line and Tech line trims, with three and five sub-variants respectively. The 1.5-litre Seltos petrol with manual transmission (MT) in the HTE, HTK, HTK+ and HTX variants under the Tech line are likely to command an ex-showroom price of ₹9.99 lakh, ₹10.90 lakh, ₹11.50 lakh, ₹12.60 lakh respectively. The 1.4-litre turbocharged gasoline direct injection (T-GDI) Seltos with 6-speed MT in the GTK, GTX, and the GTX+ variants under the Tech line are pegged at ₹13.50 lakh, ₹14.50 lakh, and ₹15.50 lakh respectively.

The petrol version of the Kia Seltos is likely to be priced between ₹10 lakh to ₹16.89 lakh. The Hyundai Creta, meanwhile is priced between ₹10 lakh to ₹14.15 lakh. The entry-level prices of both South Korean manufacturers are the same, though the Seltos is a more feature-rich car than the Creta. The entry-level petrol car prices of the Nissan Kicks, Renault Captur and the Morris Garages (MG) Hector are priced at ₹9.55 lakh, ₹9.50 lakh and ₹12.18 lakh respectively.

The Kia Seltos diesel, meanwhile, has an entry-level price of ₹11 lakh. The Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier, MG Hector, Nissan Kicks, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, and Renault Captur are priced at ₹10 lakh, ₹13 lakh, ₹13.18 lakh, ₹9.89 lakh, ₹8.85 lakh, and ₹10 lakh respectively.

While the prices of the Seltos are indicative, industry experts believe that Seltos is aggressively priced, considering the features the car will have.
