The Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire is the highest selling sedan in India of all time, but the current model is now four years old. With the launch of the all-new Swift hatchback in Japan, it was the right time for Maruti Suzuki to develop the new DZire. It has unveiled the new DZire for India, it will be launched here on May 16, 2017. This is the first time in the history of the Swift.

This is the first time in the history of the Swift and the DZire that the sub 4-metre compact sedan is launched before the hatchback - that is how important the car is for Maruti.

So what's new?

Exterior Design

On the outside, the DZire now follows the new design philosophy set by Suzuki when it showed the all-new Swift. The whole car is more cohesive and has flowing lines. There are very few elements which tie the new DZire to the old car, the headlamp shape is somewhat similar and so is the case with the tail-lamps, but everything else looks all-new.

The new hexagonal grille is also rounded out, with prominent chrome inserts on the bumper. The headlamps, at least on the top-end variants, feature LED projector lamps along with LED DRLs. The roof-line is flowing, unlike the current model, and the 15-inch alloy wheels get a new machined look.

At the rear, the boot is better integrated and looks larger than the one on the older model. The tail lamps now feature LED guide lights.

Interior Design

While the interior theme continues to be black-and-beige, the design has been changed significantly. On the top-end variant, the DZire now features a three-spoke flat-bottom steering. The sporty steering wheel gets faux wood inserts which look out of place. The AC vents are squared off while the DZire now features a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a new climate control module.

It is the same length as the car it replaces, 40mm wider, 40mm shorter and has a wheelbase that is 20mm longer. Its ground clearance is lower than before by 7mm to 163mm.

Maruti has also managed to increase the boot space of the new DZire to 376-litres, which is 60-litres bigger!
