Toyota has officially taken the covers off the Raize by revealing it in Japan. The sub-4 metre SUV is built on the DNGA architecture by Daihatsu, a Toyota subsidiary. It could also preview the appearance of the upcoming Toyota-Suzuki sub-4 metre SUV for India which is likely to land in 2022.

In Japan, the Toyota Raize features a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine coupled with a CVT automatic transmission system. It’s capable of churning out a max power of 98 PS and a peak torque of 140 Nm. It is also available in a four-wheel-drive option in Japan.

Inside, the Toyota Raise is blessed with an all-black look. The top variants get red highlights too, on the seats, doors, and dash. There is a big 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the centre, a 7-inch instrument cluster with TFT colour display and an LED digital speedometer. Additionally, it gets features like parking assist, cruise control, crash avoidance braking, and collision warning.

Dimension-wise, the Raize features a longer wheelbase and more cargo space than the Hyundai Venue and the Brezza. It is 15mm taller than the Venue but 20mm shorter than the Brezza. While the Venue is 85mm wider, the Brezza is 105mm wider than the recently-revealed Toyota Raize.

Talking about the Indian-bound Toyota-Suzuki sub-4 metre SUV, Toyota earlier announced its plans to launch a car similar to Brezza in India in collaboration with Suzuki. And now with the Raize reveal, it is quite evident that Toyota is already on track to make the big move. The co-developed sub-4 metre SUV is likely to launch in India by 2022 and will be built at Toyota’s Bengaluru facility.

Moreover, the India-specific sub-4 metre SUV would neither feature a four-wheel-drive option nor it would get the Raize’s engine. Instead, it would get a petrol powertrain borrowed from Maruti Suzuki with manual and automatic transmission options.

The Toyota-Suzuki sub-4 metre SUV will take on the likes of the Hyundai venue, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon, and Kia QXI in India. It is likely to be priced between Rs 7 lakh and Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom).
