While the first-gen Fortuner held the best-in-segment flag high, the second-generation has surpassed all previous-bests. The new Fortuner has received a special welcome in India with 2000 units on road within the first month of its launch. Unfortunately for Toyota, the demonetisation drive started only a day after the Fortuner's official launch here. Toyota is however reaping special benefits of Fortuner's big fan base and has another 5000 bookings in hand.

What makes an SUV stand out in a sea of cars is its road presence, and the Fortuner has no dearth of it. Brawny looks aside, the Fortuner’s reliability and overall cost of ownership make the package more attractive, especially because these virtues stand out in comparison against counterparts. Here’s what N. Raja, director & senior vice president, marketing & sales, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has to say about the new Fortuner:
“.. The Fortuner is a popular choice for a SUV in India not just for its looks, features and drivability but also for other very important values which our customers enjoy, making it an epitome of Toyota’s Quality, Durability & Reliability. Ever since its launch in India in 2009, the Fortuner has done exceptionally well and has been a leader in its segment. The Fortuner’s wide spread popularity is its testimony to the fact that it is a value for money product. The cost of ownership of the vehicle is also low when compared to other vehicles in its segment. The Fortuner also enjoys a high resale value due to the proven and admired mettle of the vehicle…”
