Leading Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota has introduced the Fortuner TRD Celebratory Edition to observe the 10th anniversary of the car in India. The Fortuner full-sized sports utility vehicle (SUV) was launched in 2009 and has since sold 1.6 lakh units. The TRD edition commands an ex-showroom price of ₹33.85 lakh.

The exterior upgrades to the new car include black inserts to the rear and front bumpers, a TRD badge at both ends, and the Celebratory Edition logo on the front fender. The Fortuner TRD Celebratory Edition runs on 18-inch charcoal black alloy wheels. The car is available in only the two-tone white and black colour combination.

Safety features in the Celebratory Edition comprise a rear camera with sensors, seven airbags, hill assist control, antilock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution (EBD), speed-sensing automatic door lock with impact-sensing unlock, and vehicle stability control.

The Fortuner TRD has no mechanical updates over its current version. The car will be hauled by a 2.8-litre diesel motor which outputs 177PS maximum power and 450Nm peak torque. The 4-cylinder engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission (AT) system. The Fortuner diesel will be available even after the BS-VI emission norms are implemented on 1 April. The car’s price, in the BS-VI era, is expected to go up by approximately ₹5 lakh.

The TRD Celebratory Edition gets maroon and black perforated seats with contrasting red stitching. Other features in the upgraded SUV’s cabin are identical to its elder sibling. The car sports a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system but without Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. Other features include a six-speaker sound system, dual-zone climate control with rear air-conditioning, and steering-mounted audio controls.

The Fortuner TRD Celebratory Edition will lock horns with the Isuzu MU-X, Mahindra Alturas G4, and the Ford Endeavour in its segment.
