Toyota Introduces Glanza Premium Hatchback In India

  • Jun 06, 2019

Toyota, today, launched the Glanza premium hatchback in India at an ex-showroom starting price of ₹7.22 lakh. The end model is pegged at ₹8.90 lakh. The Toyota Glanza is essentially a cross-badged Maruti Suzuki Baleno, and is the first product from a partnership between the two leading Japanese automobile manufactures in this regard. Both cars are exactly similar to each other in design. The only difference is Toyota’s branding on the grille and elsewhere on the car.

The Glanza is being offered in the G and V trims, both in manual and automatic transmission. They are based on the Zeta and Alpha models respectively of the Baleno. The Glanza comes with a BS-VI compliant petrol engine.

The Glanza G is hauled by a mild-hybrid, 1.2-litre K12N motor which produces 89bhp and 113Nm peak torque. The Glanza V model, on the other hand, is hauled by the regular non-hybrid, 1.2-litre K12M motor and produces 82bhp and 113Nm peak toque. Both engines will be mated to a 5-speed gear system with the 7-speed continuously variable transmission (CVT) available as an option.

The Glanza has a 7.0-inch Smart Playcast touchscreen infotainment system which supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It’s a first in any Toyota car sold in India and has a multi-information display unit on the instrument cluster. Other features include keyless entry, LED projector headlights, 16-inch alloy wheels, dual airbags, antilock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution (EBD), rear parking sensors, and seatbelt reminder. The Glanza V trim has a follow-me-home headlight feature and a rear parking camera. The overall layout and design of the Balneo have been retained on the Glanza.

Toyota is offering a 3-year/1,00,000km warranty on the Glanza, compared to the 2-year/40,000km warranty given by Maruti Suzuki on the Baleno. The Glanza will be manufactured at Maruti’s workshop on the Baleno assembly line, while Toyota will take care of the spares and services.
