Leading Japanese carmaker Toyota has confirmed that it will introduce the Vellfire luxury multipurpose vehicle (MPV) in India by March 2020. The car was first showcased in India at a private event in July and some Toyota dealerships have already started accepting bookings for a token amount of ₹5 lakh.

The Toyota Vellfire is a six-passenger car. It has individual, throne-type seats in the middle and third row. All seats are heated and ventilated and come with an electronically adjustable footrest and tray table. The middle row seats can be fully rotated to face the occupants in the third to hold meetings while on the move. The car also has a centrally mounted screen for entertainment.

The Vellfire will be hauled by a 2.5-litre hybrid petrol engine which outputs 180PS power and 235Nm peak torque. The engine is mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) system. The car is expected to be BS-VI compliant right from its launch.

The dashboard of the Toyota Vellfire will be a minimalist unit. Its top part will get a leather finish. Features will include a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, electric sliding rear doors, powered tailgate, ambient lighting, cruise control, keyless entry with push-button start, wireless phone charging, and powered front seats. Major safety features would comprise seven airbags, rear and front parking sensors, electronic stability control, antilock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), and a rearview camera.

The Vellfire will be brought to India via the completely built-up (CBU) route and is expected to command an ex-showroom price of ₹85 lakh to ₹90 lakh. Industry sources suggest that 20 units of the Vellfire have already landed in India for dealership display purpose. It will lock horns with the Mercedes-Benz V-Class which is currently the only luxury MPV available in the Indian market.
