Remember the Tiago-based Kite 5 Tata showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo? The sub-4m sedan is nearing production and will be the next-to-market car for Tata in India. It will be officially called the Tigor and will be positioned under the Zest in Tata's sedan portfolio.
The Tigor is based on the same platform as the Tiago and is expected to share the petrol and diesel engines with the small hatch. Considering Tiago's aggressive sticker price, the Tigor looks set to be the most affordable sub-4m sedan already.

The Tiago Revotron (petrol) is powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, MPFi petrol engine that makes a maximum power of 85PS and the torque figures top at 114Nm@3,500rpm. The diesel engine is a 1047cc, 3-cylinder unit that makes 70PS of maximum power and 140Nm of maximum torque between 1,800-3,000rpm.

Both the engines in the Tiago are paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and also get multiple drive modes. The engines are expected to be carried on to the Tigor as well making it one of the most affordable diesel compact sedans.

The Tata Kite 5 showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 came with the Tiago face. Interestingly, it's one of the hatchback-derived three-box cars with a good looking rear. The Kite 5 or the Tigor adorns Tata's IMPACT design language and is the second car with the new design theme.

Tata Tiago's prices start at Rs 3.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base petrol version and if the Tigor is marketed with the same engine and loadings, there are good chances that it could be priced under Rs 4 lakh.

Diesel Tiago's prices start from Rs 3.98 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Considering it's priced about Rs 70,000 over the similarly equipped petrol variant, the Tigor diesel can very well start from under Rs 5 lakh in India. At that price, the Tigor will not only undercut all the sub-4m compact sedans in the country, but will also compete on the price chart with some of the hatchbacks under Rs 5 lakh.
