Tata Motors has rolled out the first assembly line unit of the Altroz from its Pune workshop, ahead of the car’s official launch in January. It’s the second car from Tata Motors to be based on the Impact 2.0 design language. Pre-bookings for the car are likely to begin in December.

The Tata Altorz was first showcased as the 45X concept car at the 2018 Auto Expo. It was later displayed at the Geneva Motor Show that year.

Commenting on the rollout, president of Tata’s passenger vehicle division Mayank Pareek, said that they are thrilled to introduce a class-defining product. The Altroz will be the first Tata vehicle to get the all-new Alfa (agile, light, flexible, advanced) platform. The Altroz was a highly anticipated car ever since it was first shown at Geneva. He hoped that customers would appreciate the vehicle’s futuristic design and features.

The production model of the Altroz looks similar to the Geneva version. The car which was rolled out has a golden finish. The premium hatchback is expected to get a floating 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display unit, cruise control, ambient lighting, and a semi-digital instrument cluster. Other features are expected to comprise a two-tone dashboard and steering-mounted audio controls across all versions.

The Tata Altroz will be sold in a choice of three engines which includes a turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol motor. The 1.5-litre diesel engine is borrowed from the Nexon, while the third option will be the naturally aspirated, 1.2-litre petrol unit which also hauls the Tiago. The engines will be mated to a five-speed or six-speed manual gearbox while an automated manual transmission (AMT) unit will be available as an option. The AMT may be launched later.

The premium hatchback from the Mumbai-headquartered company is expected to be pegged between ₹5.5 lakh to ₹8.5 lakh. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai Elite i20, and the Toyota Glanza will be its competitors.
