Indian indigenous automobile manufacturer Tata Motors has joined hands with car leasing firm Orix to introduce a doorstep ‘priority test drive’ for the Harrier midsized sports utility vehicle (SUV). Customers intending to test drive the car, have to visit the Tata Harrier official website and fill up a form. They will be given multiple date and time options. Once the customers select their preferences, Tata Motors will call them to schedule the test drive at the former’s preferred location.

Tata Motors vice-president (sales and marketing), SN Barman told the media, many customers follow a busy schedule and they may not always get the time to test drive the Harrier at an authorised dealership. The new scheme would help customers in this regard, at a time and place convenient to them. Since most car buyers today are progressively digital, Tata Motors has partnered with Orix to schedule the test drive which can be done from a home or office with a few simple clicks, he informed.

The doorstep test-drive feature, however, is currently available only in the Delhi-NCR region and Mumbai. It will be soon offered in other major cities.

Sales of the Tata Harrier has been going southwards because of the overall slowdown in the India automobile industry and increasing competition from Kia Seltos and MG Hector. Tata recently introduced the Harrier Dark Edition along with a five-year extended warranty scheme to bolster sales.

The Harrier, according to industry sources, is slated to get several updates soon. The BS-VI compliant 170bhp diesel motor will be introduced shortly with optional automatic transmission (AT). A seven-passenger version of the car is also on the cards. The car is currently hauled by a 2.0-litre diesel motor which produces 140bhp. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission system. The Harrier commands an ex-showroom price between ₹12.99 lakh to ₹16.95 lakh.
