Indian indigenous carmaker Tata Motors had launched the Nexon compact crossover sports utility vehicle (SUV) in 2017 which has since been one of the bestselling cars of the Mumbai-headquartered company. The facelift version of the Nexon was been spotted again, albeit in a heavily camouflaged avatar.

The facelift Nexon’s front looks boxier and sharper than the curved styling in the current version. The fog lamp and front air dam housing appears to be redesigned. The headlamp assembly now has new, integrated LED daytime running lights (DRLs). The taillight’s design has probably been updated with a clear lens casing.

The test vehicle of the facelift Tata Nexon runs on new alloy wheels but they appear to be identical in size to the car’s current 16-inch units. The coupe-like roofline from the existing model has been retained in the new Nexon. Other features expected in the upcoming version include a semi-digital instrument cluster, sunroof, and a bigger touchscreen infotainment unit.

The Nexon facelift will be hauled by a turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol engine which produces 170Nm peak torque and 110PS maximum power. The car will also be available with a turbocharged 1.5-litre diesel motor which outputs 260Nm peak torque and 110PS maximum power. Both engines will conform to the BS-VI emission standard and will be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. An optional 6-speed automated manual transmission (AMT) is expected in the new Nexon.

Tata is expected to unveil the Nexon facelift at the 2020 Auto Expo. The car will lock horns with the Ford EcoSport, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, and the Mahindra XUV300. The Brezza is also slated for an upgrade soon and is all set to get a petrol avatar. The current entry-level Tata Nexon commands an ex-showroom price of ₹6.58 lakh. The facelift model is almost certain to come at a premium.
