Tata Motors has confirmed that it will introduce the Altroz in January. The Altroz will be Tata’s first car in the Indian premium hatchback segment.

According to a new teaser released by the Mumbai-headquartered company, the India-specific Altroz looks nearly similar to the car which was showcased earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show. The Altroz is based on the Alfa (agile, light, flexible, advanced) architecture and its interior would also be similar to the Geneva version.

The upcoming Altroz has already been spotted several times being tested on Indian roads. A new teaser from Tata has now revealed that the car will have a two-tone roof. Other features include piano black outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs), a sporty grille, and dual slim headlamps. The C-pillar houses the rear door handle.

The Tata Altroz is all set to have a spacious, two-tone cabin. The interior will sport a multifunction, 3-spoke steering wheel, while the dashboard will be dominated by a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display unit. Other features would comprise a front armrest, automatic climate control, and ambient lighting.

The Altroz will be sold in a choice of three BS-VI engines. The petrol options would include 1.2-litre units of Tata’s naturally aspirated and turbocharged motors. The latter produces 140Nm peak torque and 102PS maximum power. The diesel motor would be a 1.5-litre unit that hauls the Nexon. Tata may offer an optional automated manual transmission (AMT) with the Altroz like in the Nexon. The AMT system, however, may not be available at launch.

Tata is expected to price the Altroz between ₹5.50 lakh and ₹8.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The car will be positioned above the Tiago in the company’s portfolio and will compete with the Honda Jazz, Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai Elite i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, and the Toyota Glanza in the premium hatchback segment. The Glanza is a re-badged version of the Baleno.
