Tata Harrier Automatic Spotted With Sunroof

  • Jul 23, 2019

Tata Harrier with automatic transmission (AT), the latest midsized sports utility vehicle (SUV) from the Indian indigenous automobile manufacturer, has been spotted during a road test in Bengaluru. A picture of the vehicle, with a sticker about the engine’s BS-VI compliance and AT was pasted on the window. The car also has a sunroof.

The Harrier has been undergoing an upgrade for some time now and was spotted only in a heavily camouflaged avatar. The latest images, however, revealed a sunroof while the vehicle was finished in Calisto Copper. All other design elements seem to be similar to the Harrier’s current version.

The new Harrier’s sunroof is not hugely panoramic like the recently launched Morris Garages (MG) Hector. Tata is likely to offer the sunroof in a number of variants of the Harrier. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and Tata have been testing the BS-VI engines of the Jeep Compass and Harrier for some time now. Both cars have already been spotted a number of times. The new BS-VI Harrier will be a cleaner car and also more powerful. The 2.0-litre motor is expected to produce 170PS maximum power, up from the current 140PS, while the peak torque output is likely to remain unchanged at 350Nm.

Jeep recently introduced the Compass Trailhawk with a BS-VI version of the Multijet II diesel motor with the same output numbers. The Harrier AT is expected to get an identical diesel engine later this year, though Tata may choose to retain the 140PS trim for the vehicle’s lower versions.

The Tata Harrier currently commands an ex-showroom price between ₹12.9 lakh to ₹16.7 lakh. The car’s current version has no petrol engine or an AT option. The Harrier runs on a 2.0-litre diesel motor paired with a 6-speed manual gear system. The 6-speed AT unit in the upgraded Harrier is likely to be sourced from Hyundai.
