Indian indigenous carmaker Tata Motors is all set to unveil the Altroz premium hatchback in December. The company is likely to officially launch the car in January with the commercial rollout happening soon after. The Mumbai-headquartered company plans to tow a similar timeline for the Harrier sports utility vehicle (SUV).

The Tata Altroz, meanwhile, has already been showcased at the Geneva International Motor Show earlier this year. The car, back then, was dubbed as the ‘Geneva Edition’. The India-specific model of the Altroz is likely to incorporate a few changes to suit home conditions.

The Altroz premium hatchback is expected to come in one diesel and two petrol engine options. The turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol motor outputs 140Nm peak torque and 102PS maximum power. It’s the same unit which hauls the Tata Nexon. The other petrol option will be the regular, internally combustible 1.2-litre unit.

The diesel option for the Altorz is expected to be the Nexon’s 1.5-litre motor which produces 260Nm peak torque and 110PS maximum power. However, in the Altorz, the engine could be slightly detuned. All three motors will conform to the upcoming BS-VI emission standard.

The cabin of the Tata Altroz will be finished in black. A floating touchscreen infotainment system will dominate the car’s dashboard. The latter gets dual tone elements and the touchscreen system also has manual controls. The car’s steering wheel comes with cruise control features. A leaked promotional video has revealed that the car will have ambient lighting. It also showed a Google Assistant logo which indicates that the Altroz will support app-based, Google-powered voice-activated commands.

The Altroz will be the first vehicle from Tata’s stable to be based on the company’s ALFA (agile, light, flexible and advanced) platform.

The Tata Altorz premium hatchback is expected to command an ex-showroom price between ₹5.5 lakh and ₹9 lakh. It will lock horns with segment peers like Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai Elite i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, and the Honda Jazz.
