Tata Altroz EV Unveiled At Geneva Motor Show

  • Mar 07, 2019

Tata has unveiled yet another electric vehicle in the form of Altroz EV, which is a hatchback based on the Tata Altroz. The official unveiling took place at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show. Prior to this, the automaker had revealed two other electric vehicles, one is the electric version of the Tiago, while another one is the Tigor-based EV.

Talking about the latest introduction, the new Altroz-based EV uses ALFA-ARC architecture that supports the requisites for electrification. Very similar to the regular Altroz in terms of design, the Altroz EV measures exactly the same as the former, 3988mm in length, 1754mm in width, 1505mm in height and sports a wheelbase of 2501mm.

Besides a few similarities, the Altroz EV gets contrasting touches on the outside that include dual-LED headlamps flanked by a sleek front grille, which has been positioned slightly lower than the regular Altroz. The front wing mirrors get a unique kink in addition to distinct elements around the window lines. The hatchback gets 16-inch alloy wheels.

As per the claims, the Altroz EV will have a range of 250 to 300 km, which is expected to vary when the car enters the real world. However, it will be superior to EVs like Mahindra eVerito and sibling Tata Tigor EV in terms of range, the former has a claimed range of 140km, whereas the latter can travel 130km on a single charge. Hence, expect the Altroz EV to retail in the higher price bracket than the other two. The Mahindra eVerito retails at a price of Rs 10.47 lakh (inclusive of FAME subsidy).

The Tata Altroz EV will make its way to the Indian market in 2020, but not before April. Once launched, it will compete against the likes of Nissan Leaf, Hyundai Kona and the upcoming MG electric SUV. Also, it will be one of the long-range EVs available to buy in the country. We expect it to be priced around Rs 15 lakh.
