Tata 45X Hatchback Altroz To Debut In March 2019

  • Feb 25, 2019

The new Tata 45X hatchback is scheduled to debut next month and is expected to be launched in June 2019. It will be called the Altroz and not Aquila, as confirmed by the automaker. Tata reveals that the name is inspired by Albatross, which is an agile seabird with an ability to soar over miles without much effort.

Positioned above the Tata Tiago, the new Altroz, a premium hatchback, will be based on a new ingenious ALFA ARC platform, developed in-house. Additionally, the Altroz will be the first car to be built on this platform. The road-ready version of the Tata 45X is expected to be built on similar design lines as its concept. Hence expect it to get a sharp body style at the front as well as at the back. While on the inside, we expect it to be inspired by the Nexon and the Harrier. It would get a free-floating style display and a minimalistic dashboard.]

On the features front, it will get the segment-first semi-digital instrument cluster just like the one on the Harrier, this comes to light after being spied on the test mules. Some notable features that are expected to be part of the new hatchback include auto climate control, 7-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support and an 8-speaker Harmon surround-sound system. A sunroof could also be on offer as an option.

In terms of engines, the new premium hatchback is expected to borrow powertrains from the Tiago/Tigor or the Nexon. Talking about the petrol powertrain, it could get one from the Tiago that is 1.2-litre naturally aspirated unit that produces 85PS of power or its turbocharged version which powers the outgoing Nexon and produces 110PS.

The diesel powertrain it is likely to get is the one that powers the Nexon, 1.5-litre unit that pumps out a max power of 110PS and a peak torque of 260Nm. Since both the engines come with an AMT, we can assume the company to offer the same with the new Altroz along with the 5-speed or 6-speed manual gearbox.

The expected price of the Tata 45X Hatchback, Altroz is between Rs 5.5 lakh and Rs 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will challenge the likes of the Hyundai Elite i20 (starts Rs 5.49 lakh), the Maruti Suzuki Baleno (starts Rs 5.45 lakh), the VW Polo (starts Rs 5.70) and the Honda Jazz (starts Rs 7.39 lakh).
