Skoda’s Upcoming Launch Streak – Rapid Monte Carlo, Octavia RS And Kodiaq

  • Aug 11, 2017

Skoda has announced their plans to launch three cars in India before the end of this year – Rapid Monte Carlo edition, Octavia RS and Kodiaq. While the Kodiaq lets Skoda enter a completely new segment, the Rapid Monte Carlo and the Octavia RS are variants of existing car models.

The first of the cars that will hit the market will be the Rapid Monte Carlo. Bookings for the sporty-looking Rapid are open, and deliveries are expected to start from September 2017. Skoda will announce the prices for the special edition variant in mid-August, and it’s expected that this will be the new top variant of the Rapid. Equipment level is expected to be the same as the top-end Skoda Rapid Style, and so are the engines.

The Rapid Monte Carlo will basically be a cosmetically enhanced version of the regular Rapid. It will be available in a special red exterior colour with black contrast ORVMs and roof. Black new-design 16-inch alloy wheels and black front grille will complement the overall exterior look. To add to the sportiness, there will be a rear spoiler as well.

The sporty theme will continue on the inside with an all-black interior with red stitching on the upholstery. The steering wheel will be a flat-bottom type and will have leather stitched in red on it.

The Rapid's Style variant is available with all possible engine-transmission combinations on offer on the Rapid. It remains to be seen whether the Monte Carlo edition will come only with the automatic transmission or will it have all the engine-transmission options unlocked for it. Prices for the Rapid Style start from Rs 10.24 lakh and go up to Rs 13.06 lakh. Expected the Monte Carlo version to cost Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 more than the Style.

The Skoda Octavia RS will be the next launch after the Rapid Monte Carlo, and it’s a nameplate in which a lot of enthusiasts will be interested. The news is that the RS is coming by the end of August and bookings are open. The Octavia RS will be assembled in India, but we’re yet to get clarity whether it’ll come in its petrol avatar or diesel, or both. The engine-transmission line-up on offer on the Octavia RS globally includes a 2.0-litre, 230PS petrol engine paired with either a 6-speed DSG or a 6-speed manual, and a 2.0-litre, 184PS diesel with a 6-speed DSG or a 6-speed manual. There’s also a 4x4 Octavia RS on offer with the diesel engine, but we’re quite sure that it won’t fit Skoda’s Indian scheme of things. Wait till the month end for prices and details about the RS.

Skoda Kodiaq

Last, but definitely not the least, is the first 7-seater SUV from Skoda, the Kodiaq. It’s coming to India in the last quarter this year and is expected to come in both petrol and diesel avatars. The diesel version might get a 2.0-litre TDI engine producing 150PS of max power. The petrol engine could be a 2.0-litre unit making 180PS on the top. Both the engines are expected to get a 7-speed DSG transmission, and the Kodiaq will also have a 4x4 option. The Kodiaq will go on sale against the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. We’ll keep you updated as and when we get more details about the Skoda Kodiaq.
