Skoda Reveals 2020 Octavia Specifications Ahead Of Official Debut

  • Nov 04, 2019

The fourth-generation (2020) Skoda Octavia is all set for a global debut at Prague on November 11. However, just days before the launch, the leading Czech carmaker has revealed some details about the sedan which has already been spotted testing several times. The new model is likely to be underpinned by Volkswagen’s modularer querbaukasten (MQB) platform like the latter’s all-new Golf hatchback.

The 2020 Skoda Octavia sedan is about 15mm wider and 19mm longer compared to the outgoing third-generation model. The wheelbase of the upcoming model is down by 2mm. The Milada Boleslav-headquartered company claims that the car will have 78mm more knee room on the passenger seat. It will also have a larger boot.

The fourth-generation Octavia was recently revealed on Skoda’s official website because of a technical glitch. The new edition retains most of the car’s design language. The split-headlamp assembly, however, has now been replaced by sharper and more sleek-looking units. The car’s front fascia is more aggressive, courtesy the larger grille and the wider air dam on the bumper.

The interior of the 2020 Skoda Octavia is expected to have a restyled interior with a 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display system. A digital instrument display unit is likely to be placed behind the two-spoke steering wheel.

The new Octavia will come in multiple engine options. The India-specific version is expected to be hauled by the latest Volkswagen 1.5-litre turbocharged stratified injection (TSI) petrol engine. The diesel version could be the upgraded 2.0-litre unit. Both engines will have manual transmission with a direct-shift gearbox coming as an option. The sportier vRS trim will be fitted with the latest version of the 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine as before.

The fourth-generation Skoda Octavia could be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo. The car is expected to command an ex-showroom price of around ₹20 lakh. It will continue to lock horns with the Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Corolla Altis, and the Honda Civic in its segment.
