Leading Czech automobile manufacturer Skoda is working on an all-new Octavia and the company has now dropped the first teaser of the car which is expected to be commercially rolled out next year. The new design sketches released by the company reveal an overhauled exterior. The sketches confirm that the next-generation Octavia sedan is inspired by the Skoda Superb.

The all-new Octavia has single headlight units instead of the split-headlamp design in the car’s current version. The Superb’s influence is evident in the new clamshell bonnet. The new Octavia seems to have more contours and deeper swage lines, unlike the outgoing version. The overall look of the car is more angular. The estate version of the Octavia was earlier spotted during a test run. Both versions have a rear spoiler which wraps around the sloped rear window. Neither the taillight design nor the tailgate has a resemblance to the current Octavia.

Despite sporting a strikingly different exterior, the fourth-generation Octavia is unlikely to have a bigger dimension. While there’s yet no information regarding the cabin, some earlier images have indicated that the car will have a bigger touchscreen infotainment system, connected to the fully instrument digital cluster like Mercedes-Benz.

The all-new Skoda Octavia may share its powertrain from the Superb facelift. Petrol motors will include a 2.0-litre and a 1.5-litre turbocharged unit. The turbocharged 2.0-litre diesel engine is also likely to be carried forward. Both engines will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission with a 7-speed direct-shaft gearbox (DSG) coming as an option.

The global debut of the all-new Skoda Octavia is slated for next month. The car, however, is unlikely to be available in India before late 2020. The current version of the Octavia commands an ex-showroom price between ₹15.99 lakh to ₹25.99 lakh. The facelift version will renew its rivalry with the updated Hyundai Elantra and Honda Civic.
