Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo Edition Reintroduced

  • Feb 15, 2019

The Rapid Monte Carlo edition is back in India. The model has been reintroduced after resolving legal issues with the clothing brand, Monte Carlo Fashions Ltd. The Rapid Monte Carlo Edition was launched in 2017 and it was renamed to Edition 2018 later.

With an added premium of Rs 26,000 over the Style top-end variant, the Monte Carlo edition adds some of the ravishing cosmetic features, including dual-tone Clubber 16-inch alloys, black roof wrap, B-pillars finished in gloss black with MONTE CARLO badge and black tailgate spoiler on the outside.

Inside, the Rapid Monte Carlo edition gets a flat-bottom steering wheel, piano black centre console, Monte Carlo leatherette upholstery, black perforated leather gear knob with red contrast decorative stitching and stainless steel scuff plates and foot pedals that get MONTE CARLO inscription.

Besides this, everything on the top-end Style variant has been included. Some notable features from the Style variant spec-sheet are auto projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, rain sensing wipers, power adjustable ORVMs, auto dimming IRVM and rear parking sensors.

Additionally, there are features like height adjustable driver seat, tilt telescopic steering, cruise control, and infotainment system with 6.5 inches touchscreen display and support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. On the safety front, it gets ABS with EBD, dual front airbags, ESC (Electronic Stability Control) with diesel trim and hill hold control with the automatic variant.

What’s surprising here is that Skoda has included just two airbags in the Rapid Monte Carlo edition while the Style variant gets four. Trading the new edition for enhanced aesthetics but compromised safety doesn’t seem to be an intelligent move or does it?

Under the bonnet, specifications remain the same. The Monte Carlo edition continues to draw power from the two engines, 1.5-litre diesel, and 1.6-litre petrol. While the diesel engine pumps out 110 PS and 250 Nm of power and torque respectively, the 1.6-litre petrol puts out 105 PS and 153 Nm. On the transmission front, the petrol variant gets a 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options, whereas the diesel model comes with a 5-speed manual and 7-speed DSG options.

The Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo edition gets a starting price of Rs 11.16 lakh that goes to up to Rs 14.26 lakh for the top-end variant.
