Czech automobile manufacturer Skoda has officially launched the fourth-generation (2020) Octavia sedan. The new car is bigger in size than its current version. It gets a new front grille, which connects the Matrix headlamps to a sleeker front bumper. The vehicle’s rear sports a swooping roofline, a new boot lid, and LED taillights.

The interior of the 2020 Skoda Octavia has been completely overhauled. The new Mercedes-like dashboard is dominated by a touchscreen infotainment system which ranges between 8.25 to 10.0-inches. The car has an embedded eSIM for internet connectivity and supports a voice-activated command system called Laura. The new Octavia gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.

The 2020 Octavia comes in multiple powertrain choices that include diesel, petrol, compressed natural gas (CNG), plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid. The latest turbocharged 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre petrol motors come with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 7-speed direct-shift gearbox (DSG). The 1.5-litre engine is also used in the CNG model of the new Octavia.

The global-specification version of the 2020 Octavia is also available with a 2.0-litre motor which comes in two states of tuning, a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine with all-wheel-drive, and a turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol unit to power the plug-in hybrid model.

The new Octavia’s international version has several safety features that include lane assist, traffic jam assist, turn assist, and collision avoidance assist. Skoda is likely to offer only some of these features in the car’s India-specific model because of the restrictions regarding the use of radar-based technology. However, the car is almost certainly to get premium features like three-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, and seats with massage function.

The fourth-generation Skoda Octavia is expected to be rolled out in India in late-2020. The car will continue to lock horns with the Toyota Corolla Altis, Honda Civic, and Hyundai Elantra. The Octavia’s outgoing version is priced between ₹16 lakh and ₹26 lakh. The 2020 model is expected to have an entry-level price of ₹18 lakh.
