The wait is over for a cheaper Yeti with the much awaited 4X2 version being launched in India recently. It is now the new entry level model of the Yeti lineup in the country with a base price of INR 13.36 lacs (ex-showroom Mumbai). Its going to be available in two variants, the “Active” and the “Ambition”. It is targeted for use in the city and on the road than off-road and for those people who have to tackle the ample-pot-holes streets in India. With the new specs, it's also targeted at an increased fuel economy giving a 14 kmpl in the city and 18-20 kmpl on the highway. Infact, its ARAI rated figures make it the most fuel efficient SUV in India!

It however, is a heavily stripped car. The lack of power is the first thing that strikes you. Milling out a 110 BHP @ 4200 RPM and 250 Nm of torque @ 1500-2500 RPM is a 2.0 liter TDI motor whereas the 4X4 has a 140 BHP @ 4200 RPM and a nice 320 Nm of Torque @ 1750-2500 RPM. It has a 5-speed fully synchronized transmission while the other had a 6-speed manual. The 4X2 is a front wheel drive only, but can hit a top speed of 190 kmph.

The 4X2 is lighter, weighing 1445 kgs but lacks majorly in some features such as the Off-Road Assistant, which includes technology such as Hill Descent Control (absent on the Active variant), Drive-Off Assistant, off-road ABS, off-road TCS and off-road Electronic Differential Lock. The adjustable lumbar support, automatic rain-sensing wipers, touchscreen audio system and LCD screen, CD changer, audio controls on steering wheel, SD/MMC data card reader, climate control, dual zone climatronic and Electronic setup for multi-function display under the electronics in the car have also been stripped. There are no side airbags or parkatronic sensors either.

It however retains the same chasis, braking system and dimensions of its elder brother. Other things that Skoda has retained on this variant are the ESP, Hill Hold control, turbo charger with self aligning blades.  The Yeti 4X2 is going to be available in five colors: Magic Black, Cappuccino Beige, Mato Brown, Candy White, Brilliant Silver and Aqua Mist. and given the tempting price, should easily bump up the sales now!
