It seems Mercedes is trying to clear off the old stock of the CLS range (read our news) and make space for the new 2015 CLS 250 CDI. The 2015 range was unveiled internationally recently and has landed on India shores for homologation and approvals. Interestingly, this is the 250 CDI version and it is known that the new model will be priced lower than the outgoing version.

For the uninitiated, it was the CLS Class that started the current craze of four-door coupes and if the pictures are anything to go by, the new model looks bling and the vehicle itself gets a lot of updates for 2015.

The 250 CDI engine sets entirely new standards for efficiency in the luxury segment. Available for the first time in the four-door Coupé, this four-cylinder direct injection diesel engine puts out just over 200 horses along with 500Nm of torque. As per internal tests done by the company, the car has a rated economy of 19.6kmpl. The engine will come with a 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission as standard

The front end is re-designed and the CLS now looks more like a grown up CLA, its younger bling sibling. It still looks high waisted, has small windows and a sports car profile. You can't help but simply stare at that massive grille and triple air-intakes in the bumper. The rear gets a subtle make-over as well. Other than design, the new CLS also boasts of Multibeam headlights and each one comes with as many as 24 LEDs. The brightness is calculated by a camera positioned in the windshield and this calculates the  amount of light required. Calculations are done as many as 100 times per second but we doubt if this would come to India, especially in this 250 CDI trim. What may make it to India are the advanced low beans which pivot up to 12 degrees to illuminate around turns and this just doesnt happen when the steering is turned. A camera positioned in the windshield detects curves and then pivots accordingly even before the driver turns the steering wheel.

Interiors are more or less unchanged with minor tweaks. The CLS will continue to offer a sleeker alternative to the E Class but ofcourse at the cost of cabin space. It looks like a million bucks though and this is what will make it sell.
