After the two successful seasons of Rainforest Challenge India, it was quite clear that India has lot of potential when it comes to organising and competing in off-roading events. After the culmination of 2nd season of RFC India, it was announced that RFC will be spreading its roots in India and organise short duration regional events. As promised, Force Gurkha RFC India is back with North & South regional chapters.

Delhi-based Cougar Motorsport, which holds the India franchisee rights for RFC, has partnered with two of the biggest off-roading clubs in India- Gerrari Off-roaders Chandigarh and Bangalore Offroaders Development Association (BODA). Members of these two clubs have proven their mettle in the annual RFC India chapter.

The Force Gurkha RFC India Regional Chapter will comprise the extreme category competitions of the upcoming annual events of both of these clubs.

In the North, Gerrari Offroaders Chandigarh Offroading Mania will be held at Forest Hill Resort on the outskirts of Chandigarh on 16th and 17th of January. On the other hand, BODA's annual 'Off the Road' will be held on 23rd and 24th January at a camping site about 60km outside Bangalore.

At both these events, the adventure activities will be non-competitive and will purely be done to promote Off-roading culture. However, the participants of RFC India Regional Chapters will be competing with each other for the automatic free entry for the RFC India Mother Event. The upcoming RFC India Chapter will be held in Goa from 22nd to 29th July 2016.

As per Ashish Gupta, Founder & Director, Cougar Motorsport, “The objective of launching the Regional Chapters is to demystify RFC India for a majority of the offroading enthusiasts of the country who have been unable to witness the Mother Event in Goa so far. The BODA and Gerrari Offroaders annual events are among the most prestigious off-road events of the country where off-roaders from all parts of the country converge for adventure, bonding and knowledge sharing. We want to give them a taste of RFC India, right from vehicle preparation to the toughness quotient of the competition, by inviting them to compete in a few Special Stages at a nominal cost.”

RFC Indian Round was introduced in 2014 as the Indian Chapter of the iconic Rainforest Challenge which originated from Malaysia in 1997. RFC is one of the top 10 toughest and internationally represented motorsport events in the world. In this event, the competitors undertake 26 Special Stages (SS) which test their driving and vehicle recovery skills under extreme off-road conditions.

However, for the Regional Chapters, Cougar Motorsport plans to limit the competition to up to six Special stages with varying levels of difficulty. The competition and vehicle modification rules have also been simplified to make it easier for a larger number of people to participate.

According to Gerrari Offroaders Chandigarh’s President Padam Chauhan, “This is the first off-road motorsport event of this magnitude to be held in North India. People in the North who have so far seen RFC India only through photographs can now get a real flavor of this grand event. The RFC India North Chapter will also be a stepping stone for budding off-roaders wherein they will get the opportunity to closely observe the techniques of the veterans and learn from them.”

“BODA’s Annual OTR is the biggest non-competitive off-road event in India with over 80 vehicles and close to 175 off-roaders from across South India coming together for two days of camping and off-roading. With RFC India Regional Chapter becoming a part of our event, we will now be able to bring world-class competition element to our event. Off-road enthusiasts in the South will get a sample of RFC without going to RFC Goa.” said Shahnawaz Khan, who is a Founding Member of BODA.
