Renault Unveils Triber MPV In India

  • Jun 20, 2019

French carmaker Renault unveiled the new sub-4m Triber yesterday, its second car in the multipurpose vehicle (MPV) segment after Lodgy. The Triber is expected to hit the streets later this year and has been uniquely positioned. It’s bigger than the Maruti Suzuki Swift and other similar hatchbacks but smaller than the Ertiga.

The Renault Triber is hauled by a 1.0-litre petrol motor with a dual variable valve timing (VVT) system which produces 71bhp at 6,250rpm and 96Nm peak torque at 3,500rpm. The three-cylinder engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gear system with automated manual transmission (AMT) available as an option. Renault claims that the Triber returns a mileage of 20.5kmpl.

The Triber has a two-tone colour scheme with black and beige in the interior. The car gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system which is among the biggest among its peers. The standard safety features include four airbags and antilock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution (EBD).

The cabin of the Renault Triber has a 50:50 and 60:40 split third and second-row seats respectively. The third row is entirely removable to accommodate extra luggage. Both the third and second row has adjustable headrests for two passengers. The car is available both in the seven-seat and five-seat options. In the latter, the Triber has 625 litres of luggage space. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, in comparison, offers 550 litres boot space with the third row down.

While the Indian sub-4m MPV segment does have a seven-seat car in Datsun GO+, the Renault Triber seems to be more premium. The Triber, as a result, has no direct competitor in that segment. People hunting for a midsized hatchback may consider the Triber as an option though the Ertiga has much better traction in the market. It is expected to command an ex-showroom price of ₹5.25 to ₹7.50.
