  • Aug 27, 2019

Renault India is all set to launch the Triber tomorrow, and bookings for the compact multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) have already opened on 17 August. The Triber will be Renault’s first all-new model in India since the Captur which debuted in 2017. While the Triber is a sub-4m car, it’s still rather tall and wide for its segment.

The Renault Triber will have a fully removable third row of seats which cedes 625 litres of cargo space. The two-tone cabin has a neat dashboard and a touchscreen infotainment display system with Andriod Auto and Apple CarPlay support. Other features in the top-level version of the MPV will include a 3.5-inch semi-digital instrument cluster, air-conditioning vents on all three rows, and a cooled glove box. The safety features of the car will include all-row three-point seatbelts, antilock braking system (ABS), two airbags, and reverse parking sensors. The top-level models are expected to get an additional front-side airbag.

The Triber will run only on a petrol engine. The 1.0-litre motor will produce 71bhp at 6,250rpm and 96Nm peak torque at 3,500rpm. The engine will be mated to a standard 5-speed manual gear system, while a 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT) is also expected. The Triber reportedly returns a mileage of 20kmpl. A turbocharged petrol version of the car may be launched later.

The Renault Triber could be price between ₹5 lakh to ₹8 lakh (ex-showroom). The seven-passenger Datsun GO+ is the Triber’s only competitor in the compact MPV segment. The former is priced between ₹3.87 lakh and ₹5.94 lakh and is more affordable than the Triber. The larger Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is priced between ₹7.55 lakh and ₹10.06 lakh. The Triber will also face competition from Renault’s other MPV Lodgy. The latter is hauled by a 1.5-litre diesel engine and has an entry-level price of ₹8.63 lakh.
