Renault-Nissan is planning to launch the much awaited Evalia MPV next week. The people carrier was first showcased at the 2012 Delhi Auto Show. This was revealed by Mr Koji Takei, Senior Vice-President, Renault-Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd. He also believes that the Japanese car maker will reach a target of 2.5 lakh units in the domestic market this year.
The present production line at Orgadam is expected to reach its full capacity of 400,000 units sooner than later. The car maker is expecting a two-fold increase in production capacity this year itself. With increased output, Nissan hopes to make an impact on the global market as the company is planning to export cars from its India unit. Currently, a major part of their production is being exported to other markets.
Having said that, let us just talk a bit more about the Evalia MPV. Under the hood will be the 1.5 litre turbocharged diesel engine from the Sunny. The engine could be tuned to compete with rival cars like the Toyota Innova and the Mahindra Xylo. The price is expected to be around Rs 8 lakhs for the no-frills variant.
Edit: After this article was published, Nissan got in touch with us and clarified that the Evalia won't be launched next week. The news of the launch had featured on some publications earlier in the week, but Nissan has played down any such reports.
