Renault Kwid Facelift Spotted Again, Bigger Touchscreen Visible

  • Sep 19, 2019

Renault is likely to introduce the Kwid facelift later this month and the car has already been spotted several times during its test runs. The compact hatchback is expected to share its exterior styling with the Kwid electric vehicle (EV) which was recently launched in the Chinese market as the City K-ZE. Pictures of the Kwid facelift have now revealed the car’s interior.

The dashboard of the Kwid’s 2019 version seems to borrow key elements from the City K-ZE, and includes a larger touchscreen infotainment display system. The instrument cluster also appears new and is quite similar to the Renault Triber. The 2019 Kwid’s test model sports orange accents on the driver-side air-conditioning vent, similar to the car’s Climber version.

The French automobile manufacturer is expected to retain the current Kwid’s powertrain in the facelift version. The car comes in 799cc and 999c petrol motor options. The former outputs 53.3bhp power at 5,678rpm and 72Nm peak torque at 4,386rpm. The 999cc motor produces 67bhp at 5,500rpm and 91Nm peak torque at 4,250rpm. Both engines are mated to a standard 5-speed manual gearbox. The larger motor gets an optional automated manual transmission (AMT). Both engines are expected to meet the upcoming BS-VI emission standards when the car is rolled out in India.

The safety equipment in the new Kwid will include antilock braking system (ABS), dual front airbags, and rear parking sensors as standard. The Brazil-specific Kwid and the Triber have up to four airbags. Renault, however, is unlikely to offer the same with the India-specific Kwid.

The Kwid facelift will continue its rivalry with other cars in the entry-level hatchback segment. It will also lock horns with the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, expected to be introduced this month. The Kwid currently commands an ex-showroom starting price of ₹2.76 lakh. The facelift version, with BS-VI engine, will come at a premium.
