Renault India has launched the Triber compact multipurpose vehicle (MPV) at an ex-showroom price between ₹4.95 lakh and ₹6.49 lakh. Renault had revealed the car in June and will be available in only petrol powertrain. The three-cylinder, 1.0-litre motor will produce 72PS maximum power at 6,250rpm and 96Nm peak torque at 3,500rpm. The BS-IV engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The MPV reportedly returns a mileage of 20kmpl.

The Renault Triber has a modular seating system. The second row can be slid forward and folder in a 60:40 ratio. The third row is fully removable, and when folded down, offers a 625-litre storage capacity. The Triber, in fact, offers multiple seating arrangements which is the car’s biggest selling point.

The Triber MPV has been priced rather economically but Renault has not compromised with its features. The car has an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 3.5-inch multi-information display (MID) is placed on the instrument cluster right next to the tachometer. Entering the vehicle is rather easy with the smart key function. The Triber offers a keyless start-stop function.

Renault is offering a refrigerated compartment inside the front armrest of the Triber, along with a cooled glove box. Both are segment-first features. The car’s safety apparatus in the top-level Triber RXT version includes a speed alert system, front seatbelt reminder, and an antilock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD).

The Renault Triber has no direct competitor in its class in the Indian market. The Datsun GO+ is its closest rival because both cars have a seven-passenger seating system. However, considering the price, the Triber will lock horns with the Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchback, and the Ford Freestyle and Figo. The recently launched Hyundai Grand i10 Nios will be one of the contenders in the compact car segment.
