Renault Duster, the compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) from the leading French automobile manufacturer, is all set to get a facelift this year. Industry experts believe that with increasing competition from segment peers like the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, and the upcoming Kia SP2i, Renault had to upgrade the Duster to challenge its rivals.

Latest spy images of the new Duster that have since surfaced online, has revealed restyled headlight internals housing projector headlamps, a redesigned front grille, and bumper, and LED daytime running lights (DRLs). The heavily camouflaged vehicle didn’t offer a view of the car’s rear. Renault, however, is likely to upgrade the Duster’s list of equipment to make the car relevant before more compact SUVs hit the market.

The Duster was first upgraded in 2014. The all-wheel drive (AWD) version was introduced in 2015. The car got a major facelift in 2016 with a new headlight, grille, bumper, and taillights. The upgrade was carried out in the India-specific model and not in line with the car’s global facelift which came in 2014.

The Duster, in its present avatar, is available in either a 1.5-litre diesel or petrol version. The diesel motor outputs 110PS maximum power and 245Nm peak torque. The engine is paired with either a 6-speed manual gear system or a semi-automatic transmission. The diesel variant also comes with the optional AWD. The petrol motor produces 106PS maximum power and 142Nm peak torque and is mated to either a 5-speed manual gear system or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Renault is likely to tweak the Duster’s engine to comply with the BS-VI emission standard set to be implemented soon.

The current version of the Renault Duster has an ex-showroom price of INR8-13.11 lakh. The price is expected to go higher once the upgraded version is introduced.
