After recently introducing the Discovery Sport in India, Land Rover is not stepping back on the launch front and has just launched the Range Rover Sport SVR in the country. The first performance vehicle from Land Rover in India has been priced at Rs. 2.12 crore (ex-showroom). The Range Rover Sport SVR is actually the first car to be tuned by the ‘Special Vehicle Operations’ division of the British car maker. It’s so fast that it is the fastest ever production SUV to lap the Nurburgring. The Sport SVR did the same in 8 minutes and 14 seconds.

The first ever SVR model is more aggressive than its standard counterpart both on the visual and powertrain front. Starting with the looks, the performance SUV gets a blacked out front grille and black cladding on the front bonnet to give a rugged feel. The new bumper up front gets bigger air dams that add to the sporty profile of the vehicle. The roof has been blacked out, 21-inch alloy wheels are finished in black and the same treatment is carried over to the new rear diffuser as well. There is a roof mounted spoiler and optional 22-inch alloy wheels.

The interiors have been given a sporty black and white combination, in addition to three other colour schemes. The highly customisable cabin looks very nice, neatly integrating a sporty yet premium feel. Newly added sport seats carry a superb design which matches well with the bulky look of the Sport SVR.

On the mechanical front, the Range Rover Sport SVR is powered by a 5.0-litre, supercharged V8 petrol engine that generates 550PS of power and 680 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 8-speed automatic transmission and stopping power comes from Brembo brakes with six-piston callipers. Capable of going up to a top speed of 261 km/hr, the SUV can hit the ton mark from standstill in just 4.7 seconds. The performance figures are further accentuated with a race car-like exhaust note, thanks to a two-stage active exhaust with electronically controlled vales.

Locking horns with the Mercedes-AMG ML63 and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, the Range Rover Sport SVR is a very good option to consider in India with its air suspension and adaptive dampers that offer sporty dynamics with the usual luxury quotient attached with the standard Range Rover Sport.
