Production-ready Tata 45X To Be Revealed In March This Year

  • Feb 21, 2019

Tata will showcase a number of models at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, whose gates go wide from 7th March till 17 March 2019. Out of the total four global car premieres, one will be the production-ready 45X, which is a hatchback, a Maruti Suzuki Baleno rival. The Tata 45X concept was earlier displayed at the last year’s Geneva Motor Show and also at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo.

The testing of the production-spec 45X was already underway and in fact, it has been spied several times in the recent past which gives us an idea of what will Tata be offering with the new hatchback. The Tata 45X will be on the same lines as the Tata Harrier, following the latest IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy.

After spotting the test mules, one thing that’s clear is that the hatchback will look similar to its concept counterpart. And it’s not surprising because the company has followed such an approach since the inception of the Tata Nexon. Like the Harrier, the production-spec 45X will feature semi-digital instrument cluster and a free-floating display screen inside the cabin.

The powertrain options are expected to be borrowed from the Tata Nexon, which comes with 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. While the power produced by the engines is the same, 110 PS, the torque outputs, however, vary. The 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine puts out 170Nm of torque whereas the diesel variant generates 260Nm. The Tata Nexon come with both, manual and automatic transmission options, 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT. We’ll have to wait and see if the hatchback comes with both transmission options.

Challenging the likes of the Hyundai Elite i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, VW Polo, and the Honda Jazz, the production-spec 45X is expected to feature a starting price of Rs 5.5 lakh. The top-end variant is expected to be priced around Rs 8.5 lakh (both prices ex-showroom Delhi).
